Pushing to confront Ebola at its West African source, President Barack Obama said Wednesday the United States was not immune to the disease but cautioned against discouraging American health care workers with restrictive measures that confine them upon their return from the afflicted region. "We can't hermetically seal ourselves off," he declared.
Obama said doctors and nurses from the United States who have volunteered to fight Ebola in West Africa are American heroes who must be treated with dignity and respect.
His remarks came amid debate between the federal government and several states over how returning health care workers should be monitored. The White House has pushed back against overly restrictive measures, including proposals for travel bans or isolation measures adopted by some states.
"Yes, we are likely to see a possible case elsewhere outside of these countries, and that's true whether or not we adopt a travel ban, whether or not you adopt a quarantine," Obama said from the White House, surrounded by health care workers who have volunteered or will volunteer to serve in Liberia, Sierra Leone or Guinea, where the disease has killed nearly 5,000.
"We have to keep in mind that if we're discouraging our health care workers, who are prepared to make these sacrifices, from traveling to these places in need, then we're not doing our job in terms of looking after our own public health and safety," he added.

It’s an early scene from the TV miniseries of Steven King’s “The Stand”
The Muppet’s handlers threw in a Big Word for him to say so that he would appear “smart”.
“And why is Karem Abdul Jabar ringing a bell?”
With Barry Sotero crouching in the background.
So maybe they should continue to behave like American heroes upon their return and display the common sense to accept the 21 day quarantine after being exposed to African patients suffering from a contagious disease with a 70% mortality rate.
A real hero would insist upon that basic precaution to ensure they did not spread a deadly disease to innocent Americans, even if Obama is too stupid or too reckless and politically driven to require it.
The doctor in NYC and this nitwit woman from Maine are the opposite of heroes.
Anyone who's ever seen The Stand gets it.
I believe it's available on NetFlix, give it a watch.
Whom is the guy in the circle?
Probably just an anonymous extra.
Sure looks like obama, though.
Maybe it's a life imitates art, a foreshadowing of real life in a foreshadowing in fiction?
He's a street preacher. Ever been in the downtown of a major city?
The stereotype of a guy in a robe with a "THE END IS NEAR" sign exists for a reason!
I have read the book several times, but never watched the movie. I don’t normally like to watch movies after reading the book, as they never live up to the original.
So, one black guy extra walks through a single frame in a movie from twenty years ago, so you decide to post this image over and over, implying that the extra is Obama?
That’s pretty lame—sorry.
Yup.
A hermetic seal means airtight, so of course you can't "hermetically seal" a continent.
But you CAN:
- Ban air travel into the nation from Western African nations (France, UK, Saudi Arabia, and many nations have already done so).
- Quarantine the people who have been directly exposed to the virus, instead of providing them lawyers
- Stop importing 3rd world illegals from our Southern border, driving them to Social Security offices, providing them Passports in record time, providing them welfare benefits, and sending people with infectious diseases into our schools, supermarkets, malls, and communities.

Zero cannot possibly close any border - land, air, or sea - when he plans on issuing an EO declaring all borders erased on Nov 5, 2014. Let’s get real here.
I spoke to my doctor and 3 nurses yesterday.
They ALL told me they were appalled by these "health care professionals" behavior, and thought they had violated their medical oaths.
I am NOT making that up.
Yeah. Ain't that the truth!!!
Thats pretty lamesorry.
I love you too, man!
It's a focus on some ideological concept rather than on what should actually be done to cope with a real world problem.
For him to say anything different, he might have to change his position on border security. And we know he doesn't want to do that.
No we can’t dumbass, but we CAN take some fairly obvious precautions...
It is a classic childish argument.
You tell someone you love who is vastly obese to cut down on the snacks, and they scream at you: "I can't just stop eating for the rest of my life!"
Or someone who has anger issues yells at their spouse: Oh, OK! I'll just stop having emotions altogether then! Will that make you happy?"
Hyperbole and extremes. That is the only argument those who don't have the truth on their side can present.
