It's a focus on some ideological concept rather than on what should actually be done to cope with a real world problem.

It is a classic childish argument.

You tell someone you love who is vastly obese to cut down on the snacks, and they scream at you: "I can't just stop eating for the rest of my life!"

Or someone who has anger issues yells at their spouse: Oh, OK! I'll just stop having emotions altogether then! Will that make you happy?"

Hyperbole and extremes. That is the only argument those who don't have the truth on their side can present.
