Troy pounds and regular pounds are the same.

Its their ounces that differ.

A troy ounce is 1.333333333 regular ounces.

If it was federal land they will lay claim to it.

One assumes, possibly wrongly, that Butte County is in Montana. How odd, that the state was not stated.

Wow! awesome... As a hobbyist prospector, I would love to find something like this, except, I am afraid if I did, I might just have a heart attack and die on the spot... To date, I have not even found a nugget weighing even a gram yet. Have done a little detecting, but the old gold mining areas here in Arizona are full of iron and lead trash that make it pretty trying on the patience.

You know... If I ever found anything like that I would KEEP MY MOUTH SHUT!!! Whomever found this and was dopey enough to declare it in such a public way is going to lose it. You think the government is going to let you keep that??? Even IF it’s on your own claim?

Melt it down in to little pieces and sell it off over the long run.

Let’s see if some inner city lady from Ohio (or wherever) files a lawsuit claiming it was hers, but she dropped it and this guy picked it up and is cashing it in, just as happened with the Powerball ticket.

I say good for him, but I don’t see why anyone would publicize a find like that, especially on Federal land.
I think that I would have quietly gone home and melted it down.
Maybe there’s a reason he didn’t ?
Anyhow, good for him.
