Michael Zehaf-Bibeau has been identified by Canadian officials to their American counterparts as the suspected gunman, multiple U.S. officials told CNN.
The gunman was killed after two shooting incidents -- one at the Canada War Memorial, and another just minutes later nearby inside Parliament.
Bibeau, who was born in 1982, was a convert to Islam and had a history of drug use before he converted, two sources said.
Investigators haven't provided any possible motives for the shooting.
The violence at Parliament comes just days after Canada raised its terror alert Friday.
The suspect in Monday's vehicle attack, Martin Rouleau Couture, reportedly converted to Islam about a year ago. Police arrested him last July and confiscated his passport, but lacked enough evidence to keep him in custody, said Martine Fontaine of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

I always find it interesting that these nutjobs are labeled as “converts to Islam” wouldn’t they still be Muslim regardless of their “conversion”? Then again CNN is simply annoying

And according to one of the members of Parliament, who was on his way to their weekly party caucus meeting, he drove a beater car that is stopped right in the middle of the road with the hood up.
He shot one of the guards in the leg at the side entrance, which did not have a metal detector. A reporter who is sheltering in place, was told by a guard, he was also most likely wearing body armour, because there was a lot of gunfire as he went down the long hall to the library.
Body armour is expensive. The car though old, had no plates. How gave him the money for the weapon (kind of quaint looking) and the bullet-proof vest.
Although, many Canadians know of the side entrance with loose security for people with passes, would a former drug addict have it together enough, to see that as a soft-spot to make his bloody ingress?
Moments ago CBS News reported, citing Law enforcement and U.S. Government sources, that the shooter in today’s tragic Ottawa incident was Michael Abdul Zehaf Bibeau, born in Canada in 1982. One source says he sometime dropped the name Michael and went by Abdul Zehaf Bibeau. At other times he apparently dropped the Abdul. In a report from the Muslim Issue, Zehaf-Bibeau is said to be reportedly of Algerian descent.
Being from Algeria, I'm betting he has been a Muslim his whole life.
Excellent points — this is not just some “crazy lone wolf” — this was most likely funded and incited by some Islamic terrorists — some articles mention that there was a lot of terrorist chatter prior to this attack and that the Muslim terrorist organizations were encouraging and helping such lone wolf attacks, which are still terrorist attacks.
You make a good point. It looks likely he had a "handler" who supplied the stuff and info the shooter needed.
Also, it was earlier reported the shooter was of Algerian decent, which would make him not so much of a "convert".
Sounds like a planned terror attack to me.

Tonight’s white house fence jumper has the bearded hippie islamderthal look going on.
The Prime Minister ought to do the following:
1. Have a pyre set up on the lawn in front of the Parliament aimed at Mekkah.
2. Have members of the Canadian military bring the cheapest box with the Mohammedan terrorist’s body lying face down in it to the pyre.
3. Have a pig slaughtered and spread the remains on the back of the Mohammedan terrorist with the head of the pig on the Mohammedan terrorist’s back with its face toward the terrorist’s feet.
4. Place the box with the feet and behind of the terrorist and the pig’s head facing Mekkah.
5. Spread bacon packages liberally on the pyre.
6. Have the military heard in as many “leaders” of the Mohammedan “community” into the space alongside the pyre.
7. Tell them anyone who attempts to leave will be shot and a shoot anyone who attempts to leave. If they riot, shoot them all. Put bacon fat on any additional bodies and place them onto the pyre in the same configuration as they placed the Mohammedan terrorist’s body but without the cheap box.
8. Light the pyre.
9. Give an address to the assembled Mohammedans that says: “Witness this, evildoers. You are evildoers because you follow an evil man who espoused an evil philosophy. This is the fate that awaits those of you who do not leave Canada.”
10. Have the military match those assembled to a tramp steamer full of pork bellies headed to Europe.
My guess is the Europeans will be happy to have their pork delivered but will not allow any of the Mohammedans off the ship.

Clearly a case of “workplace violence.” Do they even use that excuse in Canada?
There is little that the media news reports now that I accept as gospel. Most of it is orchestrated BS to promote some outcome that their too smart for their own britches owners want, just as did Pravda in the Soviet Union and their big lies. We the sheep get played.
