Ebola Study Projects Spread of Virus on Overseas Flights
The Wall Street Journal ^ | October 20, 2014 | GAUTAM NAIK

Up to three Ebola-infected people could embark on overseas flights every month from the three most-affected African countries, according to a new study that projected travel patterns based on infection rates and recent flight schedules.

The findings, published Monday in the journal Lancet, suggest that Ebola cases could be spread overseas by unwitting travelers from the worst-hit countries—Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

The World Health Organization has estimated that, by early December, there could be as many as 10,000 new cases a week in west Africa.

Obola has his own plane so it doesn’t matter.

My study had it being transmitted via wooden ships. Airplanes? Really? Wow? Shocker.

FLASH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why AP isn’t moving stories for every suspected Ebola case

On Friday, the Associated Press posted an advisory to editors about suspected cases of Ebola, which they’re hearing of more and more. “The AP has exercised caution in reporting these cases and will continue to do so,” the advisory reads. Here’s the rest: Most of these suspected cases turn out to be negative. Our bureaus monitor them, but we have not been moving stories or imagery simply because a doctor suspects Ebola and routine precautions are taken while the patient is tested. To report such a case, we look for a solid source saying Ebola is suspected and some sense... [SNIP]

I am scheduled to work 1200 miles away from home during the coming weeks. Normally, I would fly.

Not anymore.

One mistake - you are dead.

A commercial flight with an Ebola liar on board is a death sentence. Yes, a liar.

The normal human response to being infected with Ebola is disbelief, then denial, then panic, then trying to flee the disease (impossible once you are infected), then lying/cheating/stealing/etc. to get to treatment, most likely in the United States.

So, even though my trips are 1200 miles each way, I am driving my own car. I will be inconvenienced, but alive and well.

We are lucky so far the outbreak is mostly contained to backwater countries in Africa. Nigeria handled it well. I hope Africa does what they need to do and ignores the idiotic open-borders ramblings from WHO & the CDC.

Three Ebola-infected travelers in November doesn’t bode well for December, with double the number infected. The exponential model compatible with the data would conservatively suggest seven infected travelers in December, sixteen in January, thirty-six in February, eighty in March, and so on.

It’s a good thing we are continuing to allow them in. Obama says it would be even worse if we closed our borders, and I don’t want to see how bad it would get without those hundred plus disease carriers keeping our doctors, nurses, neighbors, children, and fellow travelers safe.

Obama utterly failed in his most basic responsibility, to keep America safe. He is the Chief Executive in charge. Ebola was a known threat. His policies allowed it to come to the US. Obama cannot hide behind congress, or behind some bureaucrat. Obama owns this abject failure. May his soul burn in hell.

Nigeria handled it well.

***
I have seen that story quite a few times, now,
but I can’t help wondering if it is true. There is so much corruption there that I do not know if they are telling the truth about their success. How can it be verified?

Even if the authorities are telling the truth about not having new cases, could it be that families with Ebola-infected relatives are refusing to come forward?

Is Nigeria just trying to calm the fears in the West so that there are not economic repercussions for them due to canceling flights?

I do not know the answer to any of the questions that I have posed, but I still think that these and many questions are hanging out there.

One would think so, but using a public restroom or in a poorly sanitized motel room after an infected person could do you in as well.

You just can't be 100% sure.

Well, if Nigeria is lying, we will find out soon enough - they are a much more important country than the ones with the known epidemic now.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...
