Ebola Watch: Loudon Hospital Testing Inmate Who Had Been to W. Africa
Leesburg Today ^ | Oct 16, 2014 | Danielle Nadler

A Loudoun County Adult Detention Center inmate who had recently been to Ebola-affected areas of West Africa has been transported to Inova Loudoun Hospital in Lansdowne after experiencing a low-grade fever, the first symptom of the deadly virus.

The inmate had traveled from West Africa within the past 21 days, according to a press release from Loudoun County's Communications Office.

"As a precautionary measure, because the inmate had traveled from a high-risk area known for Ebola outbreaks, the inmate was isolated and monitored at the ADC," according to the statement. "Out of an abundance of caution, protective measures were put in place and EMS transported the patient to the Emergency Room in the Basic Life Support unit."

Loudoun County released information at 1:30 p.m. today stating local government agencies are prepared in the event a case of Ebola occurs. And Dulles Airport today started more stringent screening measures for travelers arriving from West Africa countries, including taking their temperature.

Loudoun County Health Department Director Dr. David Goodfriend is encouraging people to wash their hands, cover their mouth with their elbows when they cough or sneeze, get their annual flu shot, avoid contact with anyone who is sick and stay home when they feel sick.

Public health authorities say the risk of Ebola spreading widely in the United States is low.

“It’s important to remember that people with Ebola cannot spread germs until they have symptoms, and that the disease is spread through direct contact with the bodily fluids of a person who has Ebola,” Goodfriend said.

It is in Northern Virginia. I believe Mark Levin’s Bunker is there.

Loudoun is in northern Virginia, fronting on the Potomac. The eastern part is within commuting distance of DC; the western part of it is still mostly rural, full of extremely costly and beautiful historic houses and horse farms. It’s one of the richest counties in the US, the site of many Civil War actions, and the home to presidents and other influential people.

This particular Loudon County is Virginia, between Washington DC and the Blue Ridge.

It is up the Potomac River from DC on the VA side. I think Mark Levin lives nearby. I am sure he will be in rare form tonight.

People have been working on vaccines for many years, unsuccessfully. Some point out that it changes too much to corner with a vaccine.

Well, we know that doesn't happen in prisons................

I hope we’re both wrong, too, but the trend is bad, and it’s especially bad because the relevant authorities have no sense of urgency.

Maybe, but even a partial vaccine could arrest the current outbreak ... like with flu.

*In all but three cases the patient was infected with Ebola while in West Africa. Infection outside Africa has been restricted to health workers in Madrid and in Dallas. DR Congo has also reported a separate outbreak of an unrelated strain of Ebola.

One of my FRiends here in NC refers to himself and his kinfolk as “Caucasian recyclables.”

I’m a Missourian aborigine.

Extreme northern tip of Viginia, borders West Virginia and Maryland (all three meet at Harper’s Ferry WV).

Dulles airport is there.

Loudoun County, VA: hospital is about 15 miles from where I sit.

In a couple of weeks ya'all will be in the same boat.

Texas won't be so far away any more...

It isn't an issue of "non-Africans". When a bar fight happens in a bar downtown, it's not your problem. When it happens your living room, you have to deal with it. We did a pretty good job of excluding the pestilence in the world from crossing our borders until we got a totally incompetent, anti-American asshole elected.
