What will happen to her will be much more expensive than any car seat even if she makes bail. Some people are just to stupid to have children.
There are so many stores that sell used baby things not to mention Craigslist and garage sales so there is no excuse. You are totally correct. She’s going to face a big fine at the least, I’d think.

In most states, if you can’t afford a car seat the local fire department will give you one ... and install it to boot. No excuse not to have one, no excuse.

It was not uncommon for me when I was little to lay across the package tray of my parents car on family trips. It was simply a different time. of course, then my parents bought a station wagon and my sisters sat on the bench seat while i got that weird “tailgunner” jump seat in the back. Facing backward, I had a completely different vacation from the rest of the family.

All the “bad mother” remarks aside...
This is what happens with all these fascist rules.
I will BET that there are FAR more of those “left in car” stories, some to die, thanks to this damn safety-NAZI garbage demanding everyone put money in the pockets of baby companies. Then be pulled over if, God forbid, you don’t have the child in a belt/seat, or it expired (beware the garage sales here)!
I NEVER heard of such stories until 20 years ago. I’m sure it happened sometimes, but don’t personally recall any until I was living in CT and people were leaving them at the casino.

I think the parties involved can reach a reasonable compromise.

Where is that picture of that Mexican? woman putting a dozen babies in the back of a truck?
To: leapfrog0202
well , she needed something to wedge in place the five gallon can of gas in the trunk.

You’re right, of course, but there is a Freeper, forgot her name, who is absolutely certain that all those ‘left in car’ stories are about a parent (usually a mom) who wants to kill their child. They are simply using the law as cover.
Obviously have never comprehended the old ‘out of sight, out of mind’ adage. Although, come to think of it, neither did the people who wrote those laws.

If I could have afforded it when I was a child, I would have paid Mom to let me ride in the trunk. I remember doing it once or twice later on. Good fun.

Why didn't she just
strap the baby to the luggage rack? That way, the baby can really enjoy the ride, get fresh air, etc.!

I was going to post an absurd comment but after reading your post what is absurd is not doing what you suggested. Cheers

When I was a kid, my folks had a VW Bug. Remember that cute little cubby in the back, over the engine block? Yep. Thats where they put me, and later my sister, while driving around doing chores, or we were driving long hours to visit relatives. Ha, same here! Only, I went in there voluntarily. Loved it!
