30 Is the New 50: Old Age Is Killing My Dating Life
Time ^ | September 23, 2014 | Jenny Bahn

“You know,” he says. “It’s tough for people our age.”

It’s 1 a.m. on a Monday, and I am currently on the phone having an argument with a guy I’d been on only four dates with, three of them good. One of them—the last—was less good, given he had gone MIA for the better part of three weeks and I had a sneaking suspicion he had a girlfriend.

We hadn’t slept together, but the kisses had been the type of kisses you walk away from with shaky knees and blind hope. There was something there, and we both knew it, which is why we were attempting to hash things out over the phone at some ungodly hour. Because at our age, we’re adults, and things matter more. The mistakes leave marks.

Alex is 38. I’m 30. Technically, there are no “people our age.” But I’m starting to feel that a 30-year-old woman might as well be a 40-year-old man, though infinitely less desirable, culturally speaking.

Rollo Tomassi on his website The Rational Male has said everything about this there is to be said, and he has created a graphic to explain everything.

The graph is a plot of SMV (sexual marketplace value) versus age for men and for women. Any man who ever went to high school will grasp it instantly.

Women, however, are still, for the most part, in denial - they tend to believe that "24 is forever".

“Q: What do you call the girl waiting for the perfect guy?
A: An old maid”

LOL. There are lots of these.

Q: What do you call a drummer whose girlfriend broke up with him?
A: Homeless.

a woman who says she is a feminist instantly becomes 60.

To me, "feminist," is a four letter word.

My wife works with a woman (37) who still lives with her parents. She recently went on a few really good dates with a guy. Then, last weekend, he pulled up to her house, parked by the curb, and texted her "I'm here". She broke up with him on the spot. Now, granted, he was wrong. Not a class move (at least he didn't beep the horn!) but I think she was just waiting -- waiting! -- for the guy to make some kind of error. Then WHAM! You're not perfect! I deserve better! I'll just keep living with my parents until some millionaire prince waltzes into my life.

Funny story, but exactly that situation is what finally caused my parents to get married. Dad showed up casually, turned on the TV in Mom's apartment, slouched down on the sofa, and said "So what's for dinner?" She broke up with him on the spot. He came back a week later with an apology, a vastly increased amount of respect, and a ring.

This woman has deeper problems than just feeling old.

“Youth is wasted on the young.”

Truer words were never spoken.

Baby boomer men, the recipients of all the goodies that the sexual revolution brought, decided that most men who got married were losers. Many young men have the same attitude. The ones getting married and having children are the mature ones who don’t want to hang on to their childhoods. ‘The next one around the corner might be better’ attitude flourished and now seems to be waning some. Religious people, men and women, are far more likely to get married and start families than those who don’t want to grow up.

“”I have no idea what the point of this article is!””

“Shes bitching about the fact that she can’t have a successful relationship by complaining about men. She’s far too sophisticated and intelligent for them.”

Not to mention how unfair life and biology are to women. That certainly raises her value in a relationship

“I have no idea what the point of this article is!”

IMHO the point of the article, that our gentle author would probably rather cut her throat in Macy’s window than admit, it that she should have listened to that woman who told young women to try and find a husband while they were in college!

Older women are far more desirable than younger ones. I don’t get it. Young women are often clueless in the bedroom.

Wow — that article is a LOT of words to say: men get older and richer and women get older and uglier.

She’s very beautiful, I don’t think she needs a cheeseburger, but you are sure right about the wardrobe change.

30 - by Merle Haggard

Youth should be saved for the last,

But it's waisted on the young and the fast,

So many places a young man ain't been.

And I wish I was thirty again.

I know 30 seems old to a child,

But to me it seems crazy and wild,

So many places a young man aint]'t been,

And I wish I could be 30 again.

I wish I could be 30 again,

I wish time didn't wrinkly my skin

They say life starts at 50,

You've been lied to my friend.

And I wish I could be thirty again.

if all the women weren’t giving it away for free (thanks, women’s lib) then this smug jerk wouldn’t think he was the only one with aces.
