But Kazantsev was no Miss Congeniality at Hofstra University, where she was expelled from her sorority last year for hazing new recruits.
On her resume, Kazantsev lists that she was new member educator and recruitment committee president for the university's chapter of Alpha Phi, a position she reportedly shared with her best friend in the spring term of 2013.
A source told Jezebel that Kazantsev and her friend made the pledges' lives 'a living hell' by calling them names, and berating them over physical flaws.
The terrifying duo reportedly made the new members perform certain physical tasks to the point of bruising and exhaustion.
When someone reported the harsh punishments, Kazantsev and her friend were kicked out of the sorority, near the end of her senior year.
They were banned from attending any sorority events, but allegedly sneaked into the society's end-of-year formal with their dates anyway.
After she was crowned Miss America for 2015 last week, neither the university or the sorority issued statements of congratulations.
When a Jezebel reporter called up the university to ask about a 'high-profile individual who was expelled from her sorority in late April 2013', a representative said 'Was this person, by chance, in Atlantic City last Sunday night?'

She looks like a younger version of the plasticized Mrs. Greenspan.
In Texas, she would be a 2 out of 10. By the way, who vets these women? This should have been a no-brainer for anyone with Google.
Thanks for the ping, Art. I didn’t even bother to see who won Miss America. At this point even a scandal is probably good for them, bad press > no press.
She’s not that pretty.
I was in a sorority at Hofstra in the 60’s and believe me being a “pledge” was no picnic. I see things haven’t changed.
Not really. WB, one & done.
Hazing charges are serious business, exploiting vulnerable freshmen. Since they're removing NFL players for violence against partners (who are with their partners by choice) certainly she should be removed as Miss America.
Doesn't Miss American have a code of ethics? Years ago, wasn't one removed because some nude photos became public?
Thanks for the response.
I think there’s good DNA that can overcome the bad chemistry of sororities.
Your 2 aunts obviously were good when they got there and strong enough to resist being transformed into the stereotypical “sorority chick”.
I appreciate your comment!
My daughter, now a 29 year old CPA, got her heart broke by a sorority in her freshman year. It took a lot of immediate damage control by dad to get her psyche back on track at a vulnerable 18 years old.
In doing my after the fact investigation, other mama parents (dads know nothing about sororities) told me “that sorority has a long history of rejecting exceptionally attractive young ladies” which my daughter is.
Came to find out that it was a continuing trans generational clique that was at the center of the issue at this sorority.
Sororities do do some good, but wow!, they have managed to have built up, brick by brick, over the decades, a horrible reputation as an institution.
So, I might believe some other group about a Miss America, but I have no confidence in the sororities opinion.
It’s interesting, that was a factor from back in the silent days. I read Mary Pickford’s biography, and she noted that both she and Chaplin-the two biggest stars of the silent era, and the first global superstars-had big heads in proportion to their bodies. I’ve noted it particularly in Constance Bennett.
That’s just it-she’s cute, no more. Miss America was never about the “high fashion” kind of beauty, but it was about the lovely girl-next-door, lovely to the nth degree. This girl’s not even that, she’s just cute. She’s actually more attractive in what I guess is a “before” picture, with her hair shorter and brown. She’s just not the type that “glamorizes” well.
From what my aunts said, that kind of “hazing” wasn’t a feature of sororities in their day, Sixties and early Seventies.
All credit to my two lovely aunts, but I also think the time and place was different. My older aunt, it was still the day of little white gloves, lol.
She was Miss New York, so she was in the top 5 before the pageant even started.
She just proves the adage that regardless of how good looking a woman is, there’s a guy somewhere who is tired of her s!*(.
Huh...I thought she hard wood flooring...
She does rock the two piece...
platforms are pretty forgiving... a two-inch platform on a six-inch heel makes it more like a 4-inch heel :)
i would not wear a 6-inch heel without a platform... i imagine that would really hurt the ball of the foot...
i did the same thing at one point... was on a quest to drop a few pounds that i had put on once my metabolism slowed down... i took it a little to far... saw myself in a photo and said, "eww!" haha... so i put on a few pounds and looked and felt healthier... plus it was nice to be able to eat again...
Perhaps the DNA doesn’t match either.
The problem with “Miss America” is that this one *is* the image of America, i.e. the ObamaNation of Desolation.
My “aunt” was Aunt Essie! She was an absolute rock of discipline, in her faith, in her work, in her marriage, in her talk (never even said darn I don’t think), in the cleanliness of her house and so on and so on! She had no idea what a role model she was to some 30 odd nieces, nephews, sisters, brothers, grand nieces and nephews and so on! We lost her a couple years ago and in the mail comes a 30k check that went out to all her nieces and nephews. Amazing! None of us ever thought even one moment about getting a dime from her!
Sounds like a wonderful aunt and a blessing to her family :)
