LOUISVILLE A central Kentucky firefighter injured in an "ice bucket challenge" has died a month after a power line shocked him and another man.
Campbellsville Fire Chief Kyle Smith says 41-year-old Tony Grider died Saturday. Grider was a captain with the department on Aug. 21. He and 22-year-old firefighter Simon Quinn were on the fire truck's ladder when it got too close to a power line after dumping water on Campbellsville University's marching band in the charity stunt to raise awareness for the disease ALS.
Quinn was released from the hospital Sept. 15.
Two other firefighters were injured, but were released from the hospital.
Campbellsville University, a private college, is a Christian institution that has about 3,600 students, according to its website. It is about 65 miles south of Louisville.

Punted it down to the 30 yard line.
OK, sure we are done (lol).
It cured me of irrational exuberance.
As a matter of fact .....
It's NOW.
Thing is; it’s now the middle of September and this is the first I’m hearing of it, and here. Not on any MSM site that I’ve been to. Conservative ones included.
You may wish to go read about the level of awareness and the amount of $$ this has raised before holding these views. While 40 years ago I’d have agreed something genetic couldn’t be cured this country and other leading countries have broken much of the genetic code that make us...I could see a cure some time down the road
It’s because there’s so many of them. The commemorative month/ day/ year has gotten so over used it’s worthless. Unless it involves one of those really smart charities that knows how to play the PR game and use their month well. It gets even more ridiculous that it just STARTS at the national level. States and cities and counties do them too. Next month Tech Writer month in AZ, I know this because I have a friend who work on the tech writer conference in Phoenix every year and one of her jobs is to go to the AZ governor website every year and fill out the web form necessary to get the month declared.
In the end it’s all about pandering. And any group you can name IS being pandered to. Of course now so many groups get pandered to it generates so much noise there’s actually a good chance to miss when your group is being pandered to.
In a supermarket like Safeway? Ribbons to sell, jars to fill?
Are you serious about George Allen’s death??? I have ALWAYS HATED dousing people with drinks or ice....it’s a waste and can be dangerous!
I wanted to write: PROSTATE!
= = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Does PROstat mean you are FOR it?
Would that mean CONstate means you are against it?
Like the age old question...
If PROgress means moving ahead,
What does that say for CONgress????
I still don’t understand the challenge. So, you get water dumped on you if you don’t want to write ALS a check but every video is of someone getting water dumped on them. IOW, everyone was cheap and ALS didn’t make a dime. Makes no sense.
Finally, a half legitimate reason for morons to run or ride their bikes nekkid through the streets. I've never understood how showing off bare butts or boobs caused anyone to be aware of anything other than bare droopy skin. "Go Topless" or somesuch idiocy was going on a couple weeks ago because if men can go shirtless, women think they should, too. I don't understand hunger strikes or sit ins, either. Gee, it's so much easier to sit on your butt than actually get up and actively do something to solve the problem.
So how it involved into idiots agreeing to have ice dumped on to their heads even if they agreed to donating to ALS, I have no idea...........
Every single one of my stupid family, including the little kids, has posted videos on FB of their ice bucket challenge. And I can guarantee you that not one of them donated a dime to the charity. One of them sent me a challenge and I simply stated......I am not a sheep.
As far as I am concerned, and have been posting, is that this is a story about some firemen incompetence, not fundraising.
You get no argument from me.......
When I read the story, it said that the cherry picker didn’t actually come in contact with the power lines, but were in the area of the force field, or something like that, that these power lines produced. That is what caused the accident. But it was a stupid thing to do anyway.
Its all about gettin paid, Cui Bono. Follow the money
I never said it couldn’t be cured or that it was wrong to give to a cause, I objected to the circus atmosphere.
When the ice bucket challenge started, I knew someone would get hurt. And then a few people did. Very sad. RIP to this firefighter.
