Influential Republicans in early presidential primary states believe New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is poised to once again become a frontrunner for the partys 2016 nomination, following a news report that he is no longer a target of federal scrutiny for his role in a bridge-closing scandal.
If he had been found in the wrong, he would have been irreparably damaged, said Matt Moore, chairman of the South Carolina Republican Party. This is hugely helpful.
To have that not hanging over his head puts him back where he started from, said Chuck Laudner, an Iowa-based strategist for former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorums 2012 presidential campaign. Hes still a rock star and a compelling guy, even if he is too moderate for some conservatives. Were glad hes on our team.

Christies wealthy friends in Republican finance circles also expressed confidence that the governor has escaped what has been seen as the leading obstacle to his potential candidacy.
Its great news for Chris politically, said real-estate mogul Donald Trump in a phone interview on Friday. It goes a long way and pretty much clears up the problem he had, which was a very big problem. A lot of Republican donors are very happy today.
This was always a shadow, said former New Jersey governor Tom Kean (R), a longtime Christie mentor. But if its gone, he is set to be first tier, and in campaign where money is everything, he is the best fundraiser in the party.

Christie said at a news conference on Thursday that he will make a final decision on a presidential campaign at the beginning of next year.

It was both.
“Is Cruz setting up to run in 2016 or 2020?”
Sadly, I don’t think we have until 2020...for those of us that think liberty is important.
A WaPo wet dream.
They never stop trying to pick our candidate for us.
GOPe moneybags can KMA.
“The question is, would you take him over Elizabeth Warren or the Castro commie?”
No. The question is whether we put a moratorium on electing Republicans for the foreseeable future when this traitorous idiot gets blamed for everything bad and wheels and deals with his true pals, the Democrats.
If you think people stayed home with Romney, just watch what happens here.
Wouldn’t a more truthful title be:
GOP 2016 Hopefuls: Chris Christie is poise to reclaim front-waddler status?
fat chance
I believe the author meant to say that Christie would gain “fat waddler” status.
I’m afraid only flamethrowers and dogs can save us
At this point I ‘d rather the country be set up like North Korea, maybe with Larry the Cable Guy as Dictator for life
I’m dead serious
...final decision on a presidential campaign at the beginning of next year.
++++++
Well, there goes my sleep for the rest of the year.
Barf city. The media does love a RINO Ringer.
I think he'd be about a bazillion times better as VP than Joe "Advanced Dementia" Biden! If he can get a conservative Republican elected President -- then I'm all in favor of seeing him running.
Please not Christie, Romney, McCain, Rubio, or another Bush. I just want a true conservative who has ideas and ideals. My first choice did not run in 2012 and she is probably not running in 2016. Cruz is one of my top choices, a true conservative with no serious flaws, and I hope conservatives will rally around him early while RINOs like Christie and Romney are splitting the crossover vote from those trying to sabotage the GOP.
Ditto!
Like a card shark, it’s always a forced choice.
This BS story by the Washington Post propagandists has one purpose - piss off conservatives. Send the wimpy WP Nazi an e-mail that you hope to see him hanging from a lamppost after ISIS invades DC.
Crispy is my red line in the sand along with Jeb.
“Im afraid only flamethrowers and dogs can save us”
As long as you have ammo and a fair aim, you can save you, your family and your neighborhood.
American leftist males are wimps who have been castrated by femi-nazis. American leftist males wear mascara, hate guns, pee in their pants and consider the nut Al Gore a hero. We can stomp these cretins’ nuts into the concrete.
