A D.C. public school gave a sixth grade class a homework assignment that required students to draw comparisons between former President George W. Bush and Adolf Hitler.

electoral college - which was democrtically elected. Still considered a democratic election.
Hitler was elected to a lower level office in a parliamentary system and deals were made that brought him to a full dictator status.
They can’t do that, they do not know who Hitler was.
Non-apology not accepted...
He was a radical right-winger < /sarc >
I agree. Republicans and Conservatives ceding the educational system to radical liberalism has been a generational disaster. It will take at least another generation to reinstall board members with common sense in school boards and local government.
Liberalism knows this correction is coming. The only way to stop it is to enact common core.
Yes, and you can just imagine the screaming to take place once their actions were revealed. Why you had no right...
Bush and Hitler both took an economy tanking under their predecessor and improved it.
Both took Fear inflicted by their enemies and turned it into national pride and spirit.
Both were highly intelligent, and yet considered daft by their detractors.
I am sure there are more. :)
Your quip is on the mark. Bush was way to the Left of most real Conservatives, but he was far less like Hitler, either in ideology or tactics than was & is Obama. This has been very obvious since the 2008 campaign, to anyone who understands the tactics of demagogues.

Well, at least they are nice enough allow the students to contrast Bush and Hitler too. < /sarc>
Devil is in the details.
Hitler
Maybe the intersection between how Hitler was UNLIKE Bush but LIKE Obama could be worth some extra credit points!
Or, help your child turn the assignment around, to show how Bush is so much better than Hitler.
I don't see any reason to believe a correction is coming.
Common Core quality standards are being enacted, just not officially. Similar to the way open borders and amnesty are being enacted. Just because it's not "official" doesn't mean they aren't teaching that kind of garbage.
It's difficult for most and impossible for some, but the only thing you can do that will for certain protect and educate your kids is to home school them. We did - 25 years ago. I still fought the school system, and had some successes. But I changed nothing. And it has continued to get worse since I was involved.
Let me try...
Obama and Hitler:
Both are democrat socialists
Both are racist and promote favoritism
Both prefer dictatorship, executive orders vs. legislative process.
Both have a strong propaganda machine
Both support muslim autocratic rulers
Both failed in the private sector
Both are fascist punks
Both are short.
Both are tea totalers.
That’s about it.
mistake?
It was done on purpose
While local school systems can still be recaptured--yet no easy task because of the mass brainwashing of those college students taking teaching-directed courses;--a general reclamation is probably impossible, even in a generation. The cult of diversity has made in virtually impossible to create local consensus in much of urban America.
We are headed for destabilization on a scale that is almost beyond the comprehension of those accustomed to think in ways we used to describe as American.

Reading this on the anniversary of 9/11 makes my blood boil. Bush was not our greatest president, but no way in hell does he deserve to be compared in such a manner to Hitler. I’m grateful (especially as a former NY’er) that America had President Bush thirteen years ago this day.
Suggest a better assignment: On the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attack, discuss how America of 2008 -2014 (or just 2014) is positioned against terrorist threats. What has been done to keep us safe? What risks have been mitigated? What risks have increased? How does our military preparedness measure comparatively? How do our international relationships and strategic partnerships compare? Etc.
In fact, I think it would be appropriate for the teacher involved to do this particular assignment.
