How unbelivably sad. He was such a part of my childhood.

He always seemed to have that sadness in his eyes.

Suicides tend to return as ghosts. I hope for his sake he instead finds peace.

How awful! RIP, Mr. Williams.

Though a liberal, by all accounts a very nice man, and great supporter of our troops. RIP.

Ironically he has a new movie in Redbox about a man who thinks he only has 90 minutes to live and tries to kill himself. ‘The Angriest Man in Brooklyn’. It was very good and touching. He was very good and funny. (Those are not spoilers, you find that info out within minutes)

May he rest in peace.

I saw that coming a mile away based on recent interviews. The man seemed depressed and spiritually dead.

All the over the top theatrics always seemed that his was trying to hide or suppress an inner demon.

Never found his fast talking theatrics particularly funny.

I wonder if he left a note blaming Catherine Smith?

Williams was vastly underrated as a dramatic actor. I especially liked him in “Insomnia.”

This is so sad. RIP, Robin Williams.

Addendum: In addition to his stand-up comedy and acting roles, some of his appearances on the Johnny Carson show were among my favorites.

The most talented performer of all time IMHO. He could do it all. How sad.

At his best, he was one of the funniest human beings I have ever seen. Watching him improvise with Jonathan Winters was an inspiration.

Apparently depression finally found a way to defeat the comic genius. Boo, hiss.

RIP.

I had the delight of seeing him perform on a couple of occasions at the Comedy Store in Hollywood in the 80s. It's like his mind was running a million miles a second- a true comedy genius. Depression is pretty common condition in the trade so this is not totally surprising.

Wow. I was never a fan. I never found his stream of consciousness/guy on coke style to be funny at all. But, just....damn.

Dr. Keith Ablow says that 95% of depression is treatable. I am just so sad. He was such a talented actor. His verbal and physical comedy is comparable to that of Steve Martin and Jim Carrey.

What sad news this is.

I never liked him as a comedian and despised his left-wing politics, but some of his serious roles were memorable on-screen performances.

Sad. Prayers for the family,,,,,,

How does someone spend a life working hard to do what they love, succeed in doing what they love, become super successful doing what they love, and not live in pure gratitude for the journey?

Suicide is stupid, selfish, and wasteful (if indeed that is what happened).
