'This is going to be a long term project': Obama announces that US military involvement in Iraq will continue for MONTHS... as he jets off for Martha's Vineyard vacation and the golf course
Obama and the first family took off for vacation in Martha's Vinyard after the press conference The president played a round of golf with ex-NFL player Ahmad Rashad and NBA's Ray Allen U.S. jet fighters carried out four airstrikes on militants today taking out armored carriers and a truck firing on civilians Ted Cruz said Obama was 'an absentee President' and said he should spend 'less time on the golf course' By FRANCESCA CHAMBERS 9 August 2014
President Barack Obama refused to put forward a timetable for a resolution to the conflict in Iraq, saying that it was going to 'take some time,' in a Saturday morning press conference that preceded his departure to Martha's Vineyard. His speech came as four further U.S. airstrikes took place on militants in the Sinjar region of Iraq with three taking place before noon and one at 3pm. It was the third round of airstrikes by U.S. forces and successfully took out armored carriers and a truck firing on Yazidi civilians, U.S. Central Command said. 'Im not going to give a particular timetable, because as Ive said from the start, wherever and whenever U.S. personnel and facilities are threatened, its my obligation, my responsibility as Commander-in-Chief, to make sure that they are protected,' Obama said. 'I don't think we are going to solve this problem in weeks,' the President said, noting that rebuilding Iraq 'is going to be a long-term project.' The president said among his 'immediate concerns' was making 'sure ISIL is not engaging in the actions that could cripple a country permanently.'

Just read on ABC that 56 children have now died and exhausted mothers abandoned their live babies as they did a switchback hike to get to safety under Kurd control. So tragic.
My main criticism now is we waited too long to go after those devils; they have become entrenched. Otherwise I don't know how we can sit around and not try to help.
Late is better than nothing. Am glad they are trying to help the people on Sinjar Mtns.
My grandson is on the carrier from which the jets with bombs have been launched.

Ever notice just HOW MUCH stuff he has not learned?
Pretty amazing, in view of the fact that he’s the SMARTEST person in the world, right?
How much more will America have to pay in tuition for this ONE person?
Amazing, isn’t it, that the Unicorns aren’t yet pooping skittles...

Obama refused to put forward a timetable
Yet, how many Dems, including Obama, kept insisting that the Pubbies/GWBush reveal timetables?
They are so duplicitous.

If dummy was doing his job right He would of left a force that the Generals had requested. But dummy had a base back home to please.
And now we’re fighting rag heads again in Iraq.
It’s all on dummy, and the rats

I have read in some sites where dems are saying that Bush left such a mess that it will take a generation to clean up his messes. They are just thankful for Obama’s brilliance.

These deaths could have been avoided if King Obama did not draw down in Iraq. He is responsible for every death.

I sympathize with the Yazidis and whatever but this really isn’t our backyard. Where is Turkey or Jordan or the Emirates or Saudi on this? Let them see if they can create some order out of this. I’m reminded of the scenes in “Lawrence of Arabia” where the Brits deliberately held back they intervention in order to give the Arab coalition a chance to get civic affairs in Damascus in order.

Thanks for the ping, JJ!
Godspeed your grandson, Aliska!
We have indeed waited too long - The oldest Christian communities in the World, some of which date from the 1st Century A.D., are being systematically eradicated and the U.S., the E.U., and the rest of the so-called civilized world do nothing!
As we were in the Crusades, we are now engulfed in a defensive war against Islam - a cult sworn to gain world domination.

I’m going to stick to my guns here and say the occupant at 1600 Penn Ave did not order these strikes. Someone or something else ordered this, and he was told to just go along with it.
And you folks thought Congress was called back to DC just for ebola. Yeah, right.
