A British minister who was the first Muslim woman to sit in the Cabinet has resigned over the British government's policy on Gaza, she said Tuesday.
Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, a minister at the Foreign Office and minister for faith and communities, wrote on Twitter: "With deep regret I have this morning written to the Prime Minister & tendered my resignation. I can no longer support Govt policy on #Gaza."
Warsi's parents were Pakistani immigrants and she was made a member of the House of Lords in 2007.
She was appointed to Cameron's Cabinet when his coalition government took power in 2010 and while she initially had a high media profile, her star had dimmed in recent years.
She was shuffled out of the full Cabinet, the powerful inner circle of government ministers, in 2012.
Cameron's coalition government has drawn criticism, including from the opposition Labor party, for not taking a tougher line against Israel over operations in Gaza.

Also, why was she removed from the inner circle after getting made a baroness? Anyone in the UK have specifics?
Is Lady Ashton going to be leaving politics any time soon? She should be encouraged, along with all the other Islamophiles.
Good riddance.
Mualima true colors come out every time when you scratch the surface; that it is their religious command to subvert the West and it’s culture and policies, conquer it, convert the infidels or kill them. It’s not hard to figure, read the history, glance at their book, the koran, or select sections anyway. This has been their constitution for 1,400 years and it will never change, given the words of the Koran are from God’s mouth to mohammeds ear, and therefore unchangeable. The sooner Western peoples pull their head out of their a$$e$ and realize this, you’d have come to the conclusion never to allow muslims immigrant status, under any circumstances. Afterall, we didn’t allow for communists or nazis to immigrate to promote their lies, did we? With the exception of the person occupying the WH at this time.
Screen door; Good Lord.
When a Muslim wants a “seat”, it’s for no good. We have a couple messing with us.
Why do you claim she was named after a formal salutation ? It is a common error to interpret a word in one language only from the perspective of your language's word usage and customs. Arabic, like Hebrew, is a root based language with usually three consonants comprising the root and many words sharing a common root. There are often different roots for words when they appear the same because English has fewer vowels, not to mention multiple meanings.
She was made a Life Peer in 2007, three years before the coalition government took office. She was immediately made an opposition spokesman in the Lords, but wasn't further promoted in the Tory hierarchy until after the election. NB the dominant language in Pakistan is Urdu, not Arabic. The name may well have different connotations in Urdu.
She is fortunate not to be under muzzie law. Otherwise they would beat her for opening her mouth.
Oh well if your are unhappy that your Government does not support terrorists then certainly, piss off, who needs you...........
Goes back to my first exposure to the language. Our teacher introduced herself by saying “ismii sayeeda Shmelko,” “my name is ‘sayeeda’ Shmelko. I took her literally, and when I had to write a check out to her for my textbook, I made it out to the order of “Sayeeda Shmelko”. She laughed, and explained to me that it means “Mrs.” and told me what a hard time she had cashing it at the bank due to my innocent mistake. Thinking it over, they probably call her that because she’s a peer, sort of like Lady Ashton, Lord Mountbatten, and it is not really her first name.
That’s what I was thinking - an unexpected but welcome benefit / side-effect of the Gaza policy. Bravo! :-)
She should have used the definite article when she introduced herself.
Definitely.

I would bet you a beer that we did. The Communist Party USA has been active all of my life. I was born at the end of WWII.
CPUSA was homegrown, though. Not imported over the border.
It got it’s basic ideas and probably initial financial support from foreigners.
