Goes back to my first exposure to the language. Our teacher introduced herself by saying “ismii sayeeda Shmelko,” “my name is ‘sayeeda’ Shmelko. I took her literally, and when I had to write a check out to her for my textbook, I made it out to the order of “Sayeeda Shmelko”. She laughed, and explained to me that it means “Mrs.” and told me what a hard time she had cashing it at the bank due to my innocent mistake. Thinking it over, they probably call her that because she’s a peer, sort of like Lady Ashton, Lord Mountbatten, and it is not really her first name.

She should have used the definite article when she introduced herself.
