Governor John Kasich has issued a state of emergency for Lucas County and surrounding communities due to algae toxins detected in the water during routine testing.
Do not drink the water. Alternative water should be used for drinking, making infant formula, making ice, brushing teeth and preparing food. Pets should not drink the water.
Do not boil the water.. Boiling the water will not destroy the toxins. It will increase the concentration of the toxins.
Consuming water containing algal toxins may result in abnormal liver function, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, numbness or dizziness. Seek medical attention if you feel you have been exposed to algal toxins and are having adverse health effects. Skin contact with contaminated water can cause irritation or rashes. Contact a veterinarian immediately if pets or livestock show signs of illness.

Any Ohio Freepers around?
wow, that sounds really bad
YEs it does. They are going to have to truck in some water pronto!
Doesn’t sound good. They are having to distribute water and what’s going to happen when there isn’t any more to sell/distribute.
Supposedly people are driving up to 100 miles to buy bottle water.

Calls for restaurants to shutter and people to leave if they can.
Not fear mongering, but they claim it’s algae. With as many unknowns that we have crossing the border and the Middle Eastern “tourists” that have been visiting water supplies...
I agree with your skepticism.
HAB (Harmful Algal Bloom) caused by excess nutrients (particularly phosphorus and nitrogen) in the water due to runoff from livestock pens....
We’ve had a lot of rain lately. Here’s more on HAB:

Thanks for the info.
That’s a LOT of people that have to go without water.
I guess the Govt. after the drill yesterday in New York, gets to crisis on this.
Wal-Mart and FEMA will truck some in.
I just hope it doesn’t hit more than one area at a time.
Most of the action is on the thread two posts up from mine.

What should be more worrisome is the EPA report that this can hang around for some 30 odd days...
Hope not. Walmart (closest to me) as been having a LOT of empty shelves lately in the food/water part of the store.
Geez. How many people are effected? A half a million?
AT least 400,000 Ohio side, Michigan is affected as well.
Or Obama opened his mouth again.
I wonder what that is about?
That is huge. From time to time we get well water contaminated in the smaller towns surrounding Phoenix. Maybe there might be thousands effected.
1/2 a million is too huge to fathom if water is disrupted for days.
due to runoff from livestock pens....
Actually I believe the EPA introduced a new regulation this spring regarding this effect.
Sort of convenient isn’t it now to have nearly half a million people without water.
Something I read, related it to inflation. They can’t afford more employees to stock the shelves.
