The ongoing battle between Israel and Hamas in Gaza has moved several high profile actors and filmmakers to voice their opinions. Now, one of the most strident, Jon Voight, has taken to attack the Spanish contingent that has spoken about the bloodshed, and blamed Israel for a campaign of genocide.
In response to the strongly-worded July 29 letter blaming Israel for the genocide on the Gaza Strip, which was signed by Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz and published in a Spanish newspaper, Voight blasted the actors this morning with his own statement saying they have defamed the only democratic country of goodwill in the Middle East: Israel (Bardem and Cruz later clarified their statements this week).
Voight is a longtime supporter of Israel and wrote that both Bardem and Cruz should hang their heads in shame over their shortsightedness with the countrys situation and that they incited anti-Semitism all over the world and are oblivious to the damage that they have caused.

Angelina Jolie’s Dad knocks another one out of the park!
I believe Voight’s portrayal of JPII changed his life.
Actors like to fancy themselves as “on the cutting edge”....as they march lockstep, despising tradition, morality, Republicans, and Israel. The real iconoclasts are the few vocal conservatives in Hollywood. Jon Voight is a man of courage and principle.
Thanks DFG.
Way to go, Midnight Cowboy! Voight kicked their butts. Rightly so.
Spaniards are idiots. And I say this as somebody who loves Spain and goes there a lot. But they are complete knee-jerk ideological leftists, and hating Israel is part of that.
And of course actors in any country are idiots. Why does it matter what these dim bulbs say?
Jon Voight Day at Yankee Stadium. Those were good times.
Wow. This is wonderful. I misunderstood the title and thought, oh no, another Hollywood actor gone wobbly (knew he was a conservative tho).
“And of course actors in any country are idiots. Why does it matter what these dim bulbs say?”
It matters because many of these dim bulbs have an audience consisting of even more dim bulbs — who vote.
Most Spaniards - and most Americans - barely vote anymore.
So I think probably the media community can drum up a lot of support for the left, but in the end, it’s still only the hard core that votes, cheats or does whatever it needs to.
The problem is that the right is never as absolute on its program as the left, and therefore will overthink the voting to the point that they either don’t vote or throw away their vote on some obscure party candidate.
In my opinion, one of our biggest problems in the US is that we don’t teach kids from the start to get involved in politics and their future: teachers pitch a leftist line and never let them know their potential power.
Actually, it’s bizarre - I remember that when Ronald Reagan first ran, the Dems were screaming that he was “just an actor!” He was, of course, a two-term governor of California at that point, but it’s interesting to see how the leftist point of view has changed. Actors are their base.
Give’m hell Mickey Donovan!!
Well, Jon:
Bardem and Cruz have Moorish blood in their veins.
You expect them to act any differently?
Pffffttt!!!!
Not only is he a true American hero, he’s one of America’s greatest actors. Doesn’t hurt that he’s good-looking as well.
Maybe the Spaniards are still jealous over losing to England in 1588, the turning point of world history.
