I wise man (my father) once told me that those things will go fast enough to get you into serious trouble but not fast enough to get you out of it. He was talking about normal road traffic conditions.

Yep. I think they’re dangerous on the road. Off road, though...they might be nice in a bug-out situation.

2 grand and there’s no drive train? I built one of these when I was a kid out of an old bike, a law mower engine, and a fan belt.

Not near enough big enough muffler. Robs power, but quiet for a bug-out bike would be more important, IMO.

I had a moped for a year about 33 years ago. I found other drivers considered me a target and I was almost run off the road several times. It was RED so I know they saw me.

It's WAAAY overpriced.
I would buy an old scooter or BMW adventure series and paint it flat.

I can’t help but think of the “rot motocy” bikers in Chiang Mai who would go crazy for a weaponized motorcycle like this. “Traffic jam, what traffic jam -Bang, pow, bang, bang.”

First motorcycle I owned was at 15, many moons ago.
Was my Schwinn bicycle on which I added a 3HP Tecumseh engine.
Used an old lawnmower friction drive directly to the back wheel.
Motor was mounted on top of the back wheel and to the side, a little top heavy, but what the heck.
Pedal to get it started then hold on, would get up to 45 MPH.
Definitely not street legal.

That’s pretty much what I did. Bolted the engine to a hunk of plywood though.

Thats pretty much what I did. Bolted the engine to a hunk of plywood though. Had the engine bolted to a piece of 6 inch channel iron and had that U-bolted to the back fork with an angle iron brace from it to the back axle.
Had my buddies green with envy, LOL!

you want a Yamaha TW200
But you can't peddle it when it runs out of gas or you need 'quiet' ;)

$200 is expensive for a moped without an engine.
