Republicans on K street are helping members of their party shift their stance on gay rights issues.
Kathryn Lehman, a top GOP lobbyist and partner at Holland and Knight carries a list of 40 to 50 Republican offices in the House and Senate she visits on behalf of Freedom to Marry, a group that backs same-sex marriage.
"The issue is losing its toxicity from a Republican perspective," she said, mentioning that the list was a fraction of that size when she first took on Freedom to Marry as a client in 2011.
Lehman... helped to write the Defense of Marriage Act while working on Capitol Hill...

This so unfair! The homosexuals have lobbyists. What about the pedophiles, the necrophiliacs, and the goat fetishists? Next session of Congress is my bet.
what is it with women and a lack of principles on social issues? these women think they can divide social and monetary issues. Conservative is Conservative...period.
no nuance.
She works for a large law firm and so must be doing the dancing monkey for the law firm’s organ grinder.
You contradict yourself in every sentence you write. As a liberal - you naturally believe the State has no business in marriage.
So why do you concern yourself about marriage at all with “”Muslim loving politicians”?
Fact is - you think a State defined traditional marriage between a man and woman is as horrible an idea as a Sharia marrige between a man and his goat.
Live and let live, right? What two consenting.... right?
So, you think we should just surrender the marriage issue based upon some wacko theory?
IMO smaller government means that the government should NOT be in the homes of citizens.
As with many libertarians, you miss a very critical point and that is that "smaller government" has NEVER been a conservative principle, conservatives believe in LIMITED GOVERNMENT and there is a huge difference.
As far as "government not being in the homes of citizens" goes, this has been the libertarian justification for allowing EVERYTHING on the left's agenda. Government has been involved with marriages for over seven hundred years. And just to dispel the libertarian notion that there shouldn't be laws governing morality, ALL LAWS are about morality.
I understand that many libertarians believe that life should be a drug-filled orgy, they think abortion is a right, they love their hookers and porn and believe it's nobody's business if they want to cook meth in the kitchen -- but none of this is a right.

Abortion and a few other issues—gay marriage is one—are the “deal breakers” for me.
Obviously, abortion is not a deal breaker for the Catholic bishops with the biggest mouths.
What is the basic message of the “Seamless Garment”? Elect pro-abortion politicians, and you will be governed with justice, wisdom, and compassion.
The left never gives them the lower taxes they want and the left threatens the Second Amendment every chance they get, but the libertarians continue to support the left's moral descent into Hell.
Libertarians don’t mind the moral decline as they ignore - even hate - the social issues that are important to conservatives.
No, they’re too busy hating cops on the Cop Shoots Dog threads that are a daily occurence.
Folks like bamahead and null and void are more interested in the cops are scum issues than moral concerns.
Well stated!
What is a “same-sex couple.”
If it is a couple of people of the same sex who are friends, what conceivable change is needed in the laws? None.
If it is a couple of people of the same sex who habitually practice some sort of sexual congress, what does that have to do with marriage? Nothing.
Anyone who says that the existence of such couples has anything to do with marriage is promoting a lie, and should be treated like a liar.
People who are not married to each other, regardless of whether or not they are in any sort of sexual relationship with each other, have always been able to form legal and financial partnerships, own property together, etc.
So we might as well become the Dem party then.
Yet again the GOP are too stupid to understand that they have been infiltrated.
> Has the GOP ever done anything EXCEPT compromise?
Not as long as I can remember, about 55 years.
Gone Over to the Progressives
sorry but the “invevitable” is just a code word of the left for forced acceptance under penalty of law.
The Federal Marriage Amendment is an option because ONLY the tiny minority of judges have over ridden the will of the people.
Also homosexual based marriage is just a means to legally do away with the family unit.
What I’m trying to say is that it is not a major issue to me. What is important are immigration, taxes, jobs, gun rights and defunding ObamaCare. Gay marriage is not a pressing issue IMHO, because it should be a state’s right on IF the citizens wants it or not NOT a federal issue.
States Rights. Got it. Even though that’s lib-speak for caving on an issue - I get it.
Boy, wasn’t it GREAT when Obama and the libs struck down DOMA? Just becuase DOMA was overturned and States Rights flew out the window as federal courts are mandating queer marriages -IT’S ALL GOOD, right? The fact that the end of DOMA (evil federal law that it was), meant queers in the miltary and fag marriages is worth it right?
/sarc
Actually, you have said that you would vote for a politican who supports same-sex marriage.
Gay marriage is not a pressing issue IMHO, because it should be a states right on IF the citizens wants it or not NOT a federal issue.
So, WHEN will it be a "pressing issue"? to you? Please be specific.
And as far as it being an issue for the individual states, that doesn't work either because of the Full Faith and Credit Clause and the 14th Amendment. It has to be a federal issue, otherwise you will have people who are married in one state but not another and nothing will prevent two sodomites from going to another state to "marry" each other.
The libertarians are pretty good at skirting the whole issue of the sanctity of marriage. I'm pretty sure that they believe that if they avoid it long enough that we will eventually reach a "point of no return" and then they can forget about it. This has been the way they have supported the left's entire agenda of immorality. Does this sound about right?
“If they change the party platform to accommodate either one of these issues, and it doesnt matter if they are right on the other issues, because they would be joining the left in their fight against God Himself.”
The platform has become a slogan, easily ignored by republicans. It is there so that every piece that votes republican feels heard. Heard and then ignored.
