CARLISLE, Pa. The United States Army War College determined in a preliminary review on Thursday that Senator John Walsh of Montana appeared to have plagiarized his final paper to earn a masters degree from the institution, and sent a letter to the senator instructing him that an investigative panel will meet next month to conclusively assess any culpability.
Its clear there is indeed strong reason to believe this is plagiarism, said the War Colleges provost, Lance Betros, a retired brigadier general. We are initiating academic review procedures.
Dr. Betros said he made the decision after he and another member of the War Colleges staff read Mr. Walshs 14-page paper and used an online plagiarism detection program to review the document.

How Senator John Walsh Plagiarized a Final Paper A line-by-line analysis of Mr. Walshs masters thesis shows that he took much of it from other sources without giving them credit.

Absolutely, there is an atmosphere of integrity, said Kenneth C. Braddock, a class of 2006 alumnus. It was the military, and in the military, integrity is, by nature, second nature.

Fifth paragraph... “Democrat”
It’s tos-up, used toiled paper or the NYT to line the bird cage with.
The U.S. Army War College is a government organization. They don’t have donors. They will pull his degree, not much else they can do.
He was NOT elected to the Senate.
He cannot be reelected until he is first elected.
Walsh is a liar and a cheater and a thief. They need to take a close look at the guy who killed himself that Walsh says gave him PTSD. Was this suicide in Iraq in a combat zone, or home in Montana? Why did the guy kill himself?
What kind of people would promote a liar and a cheater and a thief?
Active Duty/Retiree ping.
Change the "c" of Democrat to an "n", and you get a DemonRat...
But I think how some Republicans are acting in Mississippi, as well as Chris Christie of New Jersey -- they all are DemonRats in my mind.
FROM WIKIPEDIA:
n December 2013 the Montana Television Network reported that a 2010 Army Inspector General report concluded that Walsh had used the Adjutant General’s post for “private gain.” According to the report, Walsh used his position to “pressure” subordinates into joining the National Guard Association of the United States in an effort bolster Montana’s membership numbers as a way to enhance Walsh’s credentials during his candidacy for Vice President of NGAUS.[16][17]
In response, Walsh stated that he disagreed with the IG, pointing out that he was not disciplined. Walsh went on to say that the IG report stemmed from a disagreement in interpreting the rules which govern when and how Department of Defense employees can take part in activities such as running for a NGAUS leadership position.[18]

I notice you have to dig pretty deep in John Walsh’s website to find out he’s a Democrat.
Brilliant analysis.
There are enough counter-balancing elements for the NYT to go after him: Able-Bodied White Male Veteran Senator. Too many perqs for the (D) to offset. They know that guy can’t possibly be down for the struggle.
Did you notice the word “Democrat” didn’t appear until the third paragraph? And it was buried in a throw away sentence.
If Walsh had been a “R”, the title would have been “Republican Senator Plagiarist” and it would have mentioned “Republican” every time his name was mentioned.
As you so aptly stated, “Typical”
Good point but quibbling, you know what I meant. The good news is that he won’t be a Senator barring an idiotic move by the GOP candidate.
Steve will likely not make any idiotic moves.
He’s a likable candidate.
I used to work for him and his father was a great builder, very reputable.
Walsh has no excuse for his plagiarism. We all who have been through any school for commissioned officers, warrants, or NCOs know that we are reminded, hounded actually, repeatedly about the work we do being our own work. ANY plagiarism is an immediate dismissal, a career ending efficiency report, and possibly charges.
I’m saying it was almost daily. In one school, I witnessed 2 students kicked out. It was brutal.
But they knew. Everyone knew. I’m saying it was repeatedly drummed into us as a matter of honor, integrity, keeping faith with comrades, betrayal of trust. It could not have been more emphasized. Nothing else came close to the warnings we received about plagiarism, and I’m not embellishing this. I’m absolutely serious.
PTSD, shell shock, ADHD....deathbed illness — nothing is an excuse after that level of warning.
As a butterbar, I was constantly reminded that I was responsible for everything my unit did or failed to do. It was all on me...no excuses. After flunking my first ARTEP, that lesson was driven home.
Rather than moan about it, and call it unfair (I was appointed Platoon Leader the morning of the evaluation), I said to myself, "if that's the way it's going to be, then I'll run the show the way I see fit, and stay the hell out of my way."
For the next 7 years, that's how I rolled. Some superiors loved it and gave me the independence I thrived on, and a few made my life miserable.
I resigned my commission the day after I received my first efficiency report as a Battery Commander. Let's just say I never would have made Major. My battalion commander didn't realize that he put himself on a path that would keep him from the War College.
I was in a unique position. My unit was a headuarters battery, with soldiers from the Commanding General's staff, and five directorates headed by Colonels. I was able to minimize the BS coming from battalion, allowing them to get their job done. The "birds" were happy, my unit pass rate on the PT test was 99%, and I had just been awarded CG's Best Mess.
When a captain resigns his commission, he has to be counseled by the first O-6 in his chain of command. In my case, that was the Base Commander, with whom I had an excellent relationship. To say he was surprised at the nature of my visit is an understatement, until I showed him the OER. We both knew nothing could be done about that, but the word got out.
A few months after I became a civilian, I received a call from one of the other colonels, letting me know that individual was not selected for War College. That was my final contribution to the Army.
BTW, that battalion commander came from the same state as the Senator. Irony is certainly ironic.
Maybe, just maybe, he was falling so far behind in the polls, and this seat has been in dem power for years (Baucus), they're (dems) the ones throwing him under the bus to replace him with a more viable (/S) candidate.
>>>It was the military, and in the military, integrity is, by nature, second nature.<<<
Hard to take this serious when I think of how favorable they look upon military males riding bareback on one another.
His Party affiliation isn't mentioned by the NYT until paragraph five. If he were a Republican, it would have been in the headline.
Excellent post...Walsh has proven the case against him by putting the excuse of PTSD out there, honor and integrity don’t seem to be among his virtues.
The War College will revoke his degree.
