CARLISLE, Pa. The United States Army War College determined in a preliminary review on Thursday that Senator John Walsh of Montana appeared to have plagiarized his final paper to earn a masters degree from the institution, and sent a letter to the senator instructing him that an investigative panel will meet next month to conclusively assess any culpability.
Its clear there is indeed strong reason to believe this is plagiarism, said the War Colleges provost, Lance Betros, a retired brigadier general. We are initiating academic review procedures.
Dr. Betros said he made the decision after he and another member of the War Colleges staff read Mr. Walshs 14-page paper and used an online plagiarism detection program to review the document.
Senator John Walsh of Montana was appointed to the Senate in February. He spent more than three decades in the National Guard.John Walsh, Democrat, Confronts Questions of PlagiarismJULY 23, 2014 Senator John Walsh, 53, was elected lieutenant governor in 2012 after more than three decades in the National Guard.John Walsh: From the Military to PoliticsJULY 23, 2014 The notification letter to Mr. Walsh indicates that an academic review board consisting of War College faculty members will meet no earlier than Aug. 15. Any student or graduate facing such questions is given 10 days after receiving notification to decide whether to appear in person or provide information before the board convenes.
How Senator John Walsh Plagiarized a Final Paper A line-by-line analysis of Mr. Walshs masters thesis shows that he took much of it from other sources without giving them credit.

Absolutely, there is an atmosphere of integrity, said Kenneth C. Braddock, a class of 2006 alumnus. It was the military, and in the military, integrity is, by nature, second nature.

Democrat?
Typical.
Quite frankly, I’m shocked...Walsh clearly lifted much of his final paper from other sources, so there is no doubt he’s guilty of plagiarism. But Walsh also has a (D) behind his name, and that’s normally enough to get the offending politician off without permanent career damage (see Joe Biden).
Yet Walsh is getting the full media treatment; line-by-line analysis of his plagiarism and an ambush interview outside his office. The Senator must be wondering what he did to piss off the NYT and why the DSCC isn’t coming to his rescue.
One more thought: the NYT doesn’t troll the library at Carlisle, reviewing papers from past Army War College classes. It would be interesting to know who tipped the Times on Walsh’s plagiarism and why the paper decided to go ahead with an infrequent expose of a feckless Democratic pol.
What are the consequences of his actions ?
The good news is that as I recall he was running behind in his reelection bid in any case.
Probably got plagierism tips from Joe Biden.
Because it's summer time in a mid-term election year. The LIVs are on whatever type of vacation they can put together in this economy and/or tending to the kids out of school and not really paying attention to the news.
Running mud on a few low profile dems now will give the msm the fig leaf of objectivity when they start running their slam pieces on high profile republicans in September and October. Conservative accusations of bias will be dodged with, "Remember last summer when we ran those stories on Walsh?"
Well, I guess just another libtard getting a college degree. I wonder if the clown in chief has done anything like that. We will never know, because anytime the libtards run for high office they are off limits just like the Clintons and all the rest of the ilk.
bttt
Somewhere in Montana there is a fan dodging a load of feces.
Obama didn’t earn his law degree? Actually, an imposter sat in for him and took the bar exam for him.
I think you can stick a fork in this hack. He’s done.
Walsh has some baggage. You can look at his entire military record online at scribd.

For those who know how to read these things, there are some real red flags starting at the beginning of his career. Included in these records is the Letter of Reprimand that he received from the Vice Chief of Staff of the Army when he was the Adjutant General of the State of Montana. Walsh improperly coerced members of the Montana National Guard to join the National Guard Association of the U.S. in part to bolster his attempt to win a national level office in the organization. As a result, he was denied Federal Recognition for his promotion to Brigadier General and he ultimately retired as a Colonel.
Notice how far down they mentioned Democrat.
Maybe he’s a conservative Democrat? If there are any, they’d be in the MT/WY area.
I believe the maximum penalty the college can impose is revocation of a degree. Typically, when this type of charge surfaces so many years after the fact, they will give the offending party the opportunity to resubmit the paper, particularly if they are a major donor.
Where was the immaculate Westie review board? Now, after all these decades- a friggin’ thesis is being scruntinized? What did he do to pizz off the tyro-in-chief?
Who ever released the info on this pulled the trigger to soon. Should have done it on August 10. If the candidate resigns after August 11, he cannot be replaced.
13-10-327. Vacancy after primary and prior to general election. (1) Except as provided in 13-10-328 for a vacancy in the candidacy of either governor or lieutenant governor caused by the death of a candidate, if a party candidate dies or withdraws after the primary and before the general election, the affected political party shall appoint someone to replace the candidate in one of the following ways:
(a) For offices to be filled by the state at large, the state central committee shall make the appointment as provided by the rules of the party.
. . .
(2) Except as provided in this section, appointments to fill vacancies must be made no later than 76 days before the election. A candidate may not officially withdraw 85 days or less before a general election. . .
They now have several weeks to pick someone else and regroup.
As to Mr. Walsh’s campaign, they just pisssed away $2,066,129 on the electon campaign. On the bright side, they have $700,000 they can spend on other candidates.
