On the day he won a Western Conservative Summit straw poll, Dr. Ben Carson reported he’s “starting to think about” the possibility of a White House bid in 2016.
Reporting that hundreds are showing up for his book signing tour, Carson says of the idea it’s one he “cannot simply ignore.”
Carson rose to prominence after the public dressing down of Obamacare at a prayer breakfast at which President Obama was in attendance. Since that address, Carson’s star has continued to rise among key GOP constituents fed up with what is perceived as a less-than-aggressive response by House leadership.
Despite his popularity, Carson’s electoral prowess is untested, and history does not reflect well on outsider candidates. With an expectedly crowded GOP field of contenders in 2016, Carson’s potential path to the White House is littered with land mines.
Ever coy, Carson reminded, “But it certainly wasn’t on my bucket list when I retired.”
I’d rather see him run for Mayor of Detroit. He’s a hometown hero, his anti gay stance would be bolstered and he could help bring a pro life stance to the city. Plus his soft stance on guns would be meaningless in Detroit since state law overrides local laws in the case of guns.
Some close contact with Detroit police chief Craig might strengthen Carson on guns and self defense.
That (major metro mayor) would make sense. I am certainly aware of the man, but have not followed him very closely. To run for pres, I think one has to have some seriously thick skin and I don’t think he has been tested in that way. Nor in any real executive way. I don’t doubt the quality of the man nor his ability to carry out the job for a second, but running for office is blood sport.

If he can handle the den of snakes that is the Detroit city council he would certainly have proven his diplomatic skills. The fact that Detroit now has a white mayor says the city is definitely trying to change direction.
There are schools named after him in Detroit.
I don’t like his views on the second amendment for one thing.
I know Dr. Carson works in an EXTREMELY DANGEROUS area (at least if he heads one block from the immediate campus), but someone REALLY needs to explain to him that gun control is not something for some areas of the country (like his, in Baltimore), but not for others.
It is for NO AREA OF THE COUNTRY.

I also would never vote for someone who changes their opinions while thinking about running for office. Artificial.
He’s too nice of a guy. We’re in a situation now where a leader of gentle persuasion is not what’s needed.
I always laugh when anyone in the media declares a conservative (I’m not sure Dr. Carsen is conservative yet) “untested” or “unknown.”
As if Obama, a guy who was lead around and had everything handed to him his whole life, who never accomplished anything, who won his senate seat buy having his goons destroy the lives of his opponents, who is a coke head, smokes pot, had any trouble.
How is he anti-gun?

A fellow poll worker told me that the only thing he hates more than Republicans is a black Republican.
Hopefully, a conservative POTUS will put him in his cabinet to do an extremely difficult job: systematically auditing and disassembling federal agencies.
This means moving from agency to agency, rooting out all the Democrats who broke the law and concocted oppressive policies against the people of the United States. While some of these agencies will be torn down to their foundation, others will be substantially downgraded, redesigned, consolidated, etc.
Bureaucrats should tremble in fear at his very presence. And in all his jobs, he should both be able to save trillions of dollars, and pump great vitality back into the economy.
I like Dr. Carson but he needs to run for the House or the Senate. He is not ready to be President. This is the guy who says he doesn’t really know what guns are OK for the public to own. Get real. Not to mention that there won’t be another black President for 100 years after Barack Obama screwing things up royally.
The American public is going to be looking for an attractive white man for President in 2016.
Good question...I don’t actually recall! But it was several years ago, and I’ve not forgotten it.
