Senator John McCain (R-Arizona) declared on Thursday there would be "incredible repercussions" if Russian forces or pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine shot down the Malaysian flight that crashed earlier in the day.
In an appearance on MSNBC shortly after news of the crash broke, McCain stressed it was too early to come to definite conclusions. However, he pointed out Ukrainian aircraft have previously been shot down in recent days and "mistaken identification" of the Malaysian plane could be "part of a pattern" that demands a powerful reaction from the United States.
"This was an airliner headed towards Russian airspace and it has the earmarks and I'm not concluding but it has the earmarks of a mistaken identification of an aircraft that they may have believed was Ukrainian. If that's true, this is a horrible tragic event which was certainly unanticipated by anybody no matter who they are. And there will be incredible repercussions if this is the case," he said. "If it is the result of either separatist or Russian actions mistakenly believing that this is a Ukrainian warplane, I think there's going to be hell to pay and there should be."
McCain called the pro-Russian separatists and the Russian government "really one and the same" and said both had the capability to shoot down the Malaysian flight. An adviser to the Ukraine interior minister said separatists shot down the passenger plane with a Russian-made Buk ground-to-air missile system. The separatists have denied responsibility. Ukrainian forces have been clashing with the separatists in the eastern part of the country and the region of Crimea since pro-Kremlin Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych was ousted following widespread protests against his administration in February.

Yeah right. NO ONE is going to be held accountable for this. NO ONE. It will go down as an accident with nobody proving a thing.
This old bastard sure wants to see “one more good war” before he kicks the bucket. As much as I despise Obama I’m glad McKook never got in there.
Bad omen Third commercial airliner downed by military ordinance. Korean airliner by the Russians, Iranian airliner by US Navy, and now this. As McCain is demonstrating this is how nations are led into war. The Germans sank the Lusitania and it was a big factor to convince Americans to enter WW I. History was changed. Hunch is that rebels in eastern Ukraine fired that missile thinking they were shooting at a Ukrainian transport but will of course deny it.Hopefully cool heads will prevail.
The plane should not have been downed but.... it appears to have been flying right through a known war zone...
I sure hope any airline I’m on will detour around known shooting zones....
just saying...
(what is the normal procedure for airliners? shouldn’t they usually avoid flying through war zones enroute to other far-away places? wouldn’t they normally detour around wars? just asking....seems useful information to know!)
China, US, and NK have all shot down airliners.
Crickets.
Rest assured there will be hell to pay Senator. If I were you I’d be mighty worried; you’re no spring chicken...
Whatever John. Someone pat him on the head and give him tapioca pudding.
Don’t forget his bib.
like a moth to a flame
I’m amazed at the failure to notice the dots.
The flap is about Russia, the Ukraine and the separatists.
Unmentioned or unnoticed is the fact the plane is Malaysian Air.
That would be the second Maylasian Air plane to go down with hundreds of passengers. The bad guys have problems with Maylasia, not Ukraine or Russia.
“No comment,” said John McCain never.
Why is McCain saying “if”? Don’t we know?
What are you going to do numb-nuts, send them a strongly wooded letter, and grit your teeth?
Its true!
We will draw a red line...
And then another...
And then another...
And then another...
And then another...
And then another...
And then another...
Putin is intimidated!
Mr. niteowl77
SHUT UP, JOHN!
McCain’s just jealous that a plane got shot down and he wasn’t flying it this time.
That news will never be allowed to emerge.
But, I suspect that's what happened.
McCain would be an ineffective President with bad policies who would operate within the confines of US law. His damage would be limited by the system around him.
Obama is an anti-US revolutionary dedicated to the destruction of the US who purposefully undermines US law. It is unlikely that representative government will survive in the US.
I know which one I would choose.
