Rick Perry Slams Obama’s Blame Game, Demands National Guard For Border [VIDEO]
The Daily Caller ^ | July 13 2014 | Katie Frates

exas Gov. Rick Perry slammed President Barack Obama on Fox News Sunday, once again demanding the National Guard, and called on Obama to stop the blame game and get up and lead.

Host Brit Hume asked Perry to explain why he wants the National Guard sent to Texas, inquiring skeptically, “What exactly would National Guardsman and women do on the border?”

Perry explained that the National Guard acts as a front-line deterrent for illegal immigrants, and is critically important now, because most border patrol agents are stuck taking care of the illegal immigrant children. “The president was not even aware that his border patrol was back 40 or 45 miles from the border at these checkpoints,” he said. “They need to be right on the ripper, they need to be there as a show of force.”

“This flood of children is pulling away the border patrol from their normal duties of keeping bad people, keeping the drug cartels, they’re being distracted.”

Hume pushed back, questioning how effective the National Guard could be when they aren’t allowed to actually detain anyone. “They’re not, under the law, allowed to apprehend any of these children that are crossing, are they?” Hume asked.

“It’s the visual of it that’s the most important,” Perry countered. “Their conversations are being monitored with calls back to Central America, and the message is ‘hey come on up here, everything is great, they’re taking care of us,’ and that needs to stop.”

Hume then asked if Perry thought the presence of the National Guard would really deter children who have already “made the harrowing journey.”

“Are they really going to be deterred by the presence of troops along the border who won’t shoot them, and can’t arrest them?”

“What we’re talking about is sending the message back now to staunch the bleeding,” Perry replied. “Those that are already here, to address them, to humanitarily [sic] take care of them, to make sure they are safe — to reunite them with their families — that is the most humanitarian thing we can do.”

Perry again stressed the necessity of the National Guard to help get border patrol agents back to their actual jobs. “Right now, reports of up to 70 percent of them [border patrol] are taking care of these young people who have come in, rather than do their job of securing the border.”

Hume brought up President Obam, and his hope that Perry would “put the heat” on the Texas congressional delegation to pass “this nearly $4 billion dollar measure” that he is proposing.

And Perry had some choice words for the president.

“Very little of it [the bill] is for border security. And I think until he gets realistic about the problem and how you deal with the problem, and it is a border security issue, and we’ve got a track record now of five plus years of him disregarding what is going on on the border, so here’s his opportunity to truly lead,” Perry declared.

“Don’t blame this on anyone. Be a leader, lay out a plan.”

Hume then asked Perry to clarify if he was saying he would disregard the president and not pressure the Texas delegation to pass the bill.

“So in other words, governor, you don’t particularly support the bill, and you’re not going to be encouraging your delegation to pass it. Is that a fair assessment?”

“I think you have distilled the correct answer,” Perry replied.

“What he really ought to do is restore the Texas Republic and secede, but above everything else, Perry wants to be president. He won’t do anything that would jeopardize his chances.”

He has little chance of being President.

As for secession, that’s just another one of those areas where Texas and Texas politicians are not going to walk the talk. I think a national divorce is probably in the cards whether we like it or not. But I doubt Texas will be the first to head for the exit.

“I think Perry should do it invite the showdown…no way Perry loses such a show down.”

Won’t happen. Perry wants to be top dog in Gomorrah-on-the-Potomac, and starting a confrontation with dear leader would hurt his chances. Perry wants to manage the issue, not lead.

AFIK - Perry can call up the Texas National Guard.

He is blowing smoke with this “I want Obama to do it.”
He could even make the Feds pay, if he thought about it.

You’re the one who needs to get over something….you need to get over the silly infantile notion that being from Texas makes you special, and that it is your job to protect Texas’ reputation on this issue.

I think they have meds for your condition.

“You obviously don’t realize that the entire US/Mexico border could be sealed by less than 200 Paladin howitzers (plus support & logistics).”

I am a retired army reserve officer. I am aware of what is possible.

However, unless someone can get the POTUS to order the use of force (with the backing of Congress), it isn’t going to happen. Even if the Texas Guard had “200 Paladin howitzers” available to it for its federal role...it could not legally use them for a “state” only mission. That military equipment (howitzers, tanks, even rifles....) is FEDERAL property and cannot be used without FEDERAL approval.

Friend, I am supportive of Governor Perry’s stand. He is right to keep asking - and publically - for the POTUS to act and call up the National Guard to close the border. As a governor, he cannot do this because he lacks the proper authority or real resourses.

Also, those here on FR silly enough to think a bunch of vagabond “militia” types is going to do any good are demented. No governor could trust them to follow his orders; this is NOT the 18th Century. It would be total anarchy and a dangerous situation, and that is NOT what Governor Perry is wanting.

“Why in the hell do we have border patrol if they can’t detain/arrest invaders?!”

Their new job description is to wipe bottoms.

“No state income tax in Texas.”

But the property taxes are confiscatory.

Texas spends money even if it doesn’t have a state income tax. All states get their money from some sort of tax.

That’s not their intent.

It’s to show that the gov is not doing its job, forcing citizens to intervene.

Sometimes its easier to ask forgiveness than permission — and in this case the Army (and Navy, and Marines) are compelled by the Constitution to prevent invasion of the states. I cannot think of a single military person who would say that the Chain-of-Command goes from the Lt. all the way up to the President… but this authority is given by another: the Constitution for the United States, to which every officer and enlisted man swears their allegiance —

Officer Enlisted
I, _____ (SSAN), having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of _____ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.
— and the Constitution so named declares the following:
Article IV, Section. 4.
The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened), against domestic Violence.
So, the very instrument that gives the President command (Art II, Sec 2) compels the entire federal government in this matter.

In short, were an officer to order him men to forcibly secure the border any order that countermanded it would be an illegal order, which he would not be bound to obey — or do you disagree? (And, if so, could you please explain why the Constitution is not law?)

Friend, I am supportive of Governor Perry’s stand. He is right to keep asking - and publically - for the POTUS to act and call up the National Guard to close the border. As a governor, he cannot do this because he lacks the proper authority or real resourses.

I'm not supportive of him. He is a poser, playing his part in kabuki — a disgustingly weak fool who is afraid to use what power he has as governor.

Also, those here on FR silly enough to think a bunch of vagabond “militia” types is going to do any good are demented.

So then you deny that the people of the states can defend themselves from invasion… interesting.

No governor could trust them to follow his orders; this is NOT the 18th Century. It would be total anarchy and a dangerous situation, and that is NOT what Governor Perry is wanting.

So you think that given both federal and state refusal to stop invasion (and indeed much evidence they are aiding it) the people have no choice but to deal with it?

Ya think this is all show and stage? Or ya think Obama, as he's driving freight trains full of illegals in with his DHS escorts, is going to send the military to the border?

Come on...If they ever get sent to the border, it'll be to protect the illegals from angry tax payers. Tax payers who've been economically gang banged for 30+ years due to this government sponsored corruption.

MLK-Harbor hospital in LA used to hold that record before they closed, by a large margin. In fact LA hopsitals would still hold that record if so many of them hadn’t closed.

Just pointing out that half of Mexico isn’t here in Texas, just a quarter of it. The half you are referring to is actually in greater Los Angeles, as I well know from living there through 1995.
