Three year old data? Couldn’t/wouldn’t they find more current data?

They say most deaths are suicides but these are the same people who will support euthanasia and abortion.

Total BS. Like Chicago has a low gun death rate, or Camden NJ.

An intended victim shooting a robber is “a gun shooting people”. An intended victim shooting a rapist is “gun violence”. The far left fringe is intentionally choosing words to make guns sound bad, when in fact it is leftists who do bad things. Guns just even the odds when decent people are attacked.

“Each of these states has extremely lax gun violence prevention laws

It makes sense that some states have more lax laws regarding murder than other states. The states with the more lax laws just need to add at the end of every law against murder: We mean it! Really!

Go look at this dork’s picture and read the interview.

Anyone expecting this man to gather real statistics, analyze them correctly and report them honestly is an idiot.

He’s nothing but a pro-bono political saboteur masquerading as some kind of ‘journalist’. He actually wore a beret!

“And The Safest Gun Violence States?

The states that had the lowest levels of gun-related killings were in the Northeast and Midwest. According to VPC’s analysis, the 10 safest states were: Rhode Island, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin.”

And what do those states all have in common? Far lower than average negro populations?

Except that in mostly white New Hampshire everybody has a gun and murder rates are lower than the UK or Belgium. It’s ethnicity and culture (not independent variables) more that gun ownership that determines homicide rates.

I’d guess the gun violence is far worse in states where there are the strictest gun controls.

“Each of these states has extremely lax gun violence prevention laws

What the hell is a gun violence law? For that matter what is gun violence? I have been in the military been in public law enforcement and carried a pistol and been around pistols and revolvers my entire adult life. I have NEVER witnessed a “gun” being violent. I have witnessed criminal and or sick human beings being violent with a gun and many many more without a gun. Stop destroying the English language to push a political agenda.

This is silly. Obviously, a gun can't kill anyone by itself. Then they say...

"Nearly two-thirds of all gun deaths are suicides. There, states with the highest gun ownership rates and loosest laws have the highest percentages of deaths this way. Otherwise, poverty is a major factor, correlating with gun violence."

“The five states with the highest per capita gun death rates in 2011 were Louisiana, Mississippi, Alaska, Wyoming, and Montana,”

Lumping gun homicides in with suicides is stupid. In the first case the person shot does not wish to die, and in the second, he or she very definitely does.

Wyoming has a homicide rate of 1.4/100,000, and Montana's is 2.1/100,000. They are among the safest states. (New York's is 4.4/100,000, New Jersey's is 4.1/100,000 and California's is 4.9/100,000.)

What the article tiptoes around is that what Louisiana, Mississippi and Alaska have is large minority populations. At least larger than New York, New Jersey and California. Minorities tend to be responsible for a disproportionate amount of homicides, but do not account for all that many suicides.

It's unlikely that the incidence of depression (and suicide) is really much different in the high firearm ownership states and the low ownership states.

In Japan it is virtually impossible for a private citizen to obtain a firearm and they have a sky-high suicide rate.

In states where it is difficult to obtain a firearm, like New York, suicides choose alternative means, like jumping from high places, or drug ODs. The problem with comparing suicides involving falls from heights and drug ODs to gun suicides is that medical examiners are unlikely to rule a fall from a height or a drug OD a suicide unless there is a suicide note -- and so the suicide in New York becomes "accidental" or "unknown". New York City supposedly has a very low suicide rate -- half the national average. According to a CDC study, the incidence of depression is 7.6% in Wyoming, 6.5% in Montana, and 7.8% in New York. It's unlikely that New York really has as few suicides as is claimed.

The premise of this article is just stupid -- anyone who thinks they are safer in New York or New Jersey than in Wyoming or Montana is beyond delusional.

Literally millions of Americans have some form of mental defficiency, yet only a handfull per year commit mass murder, but I can predict with certainty that for every 100 youths in the south side of Chicago, a high number of them WILL commit some form of violent crimes with guns.

Someone had to do one hell of a lot of number crunching and twisting and shading and contorting to come up with these statistics.
But I always remember the words of the great author and philosopher who is no longer acceptable in polite society because of his use of forbidden words.

“There are lies, Damn lies and then there are Statistics”

But how so you reign in all of those guns?!? Some of them are feral after years on the street and practically frothing at the barrel. My wife and I were at the park the other day, and there were a couple of guns listening to rap music and smoking pot by the restroom. One had what looked like gang tattoos...”Forever Smith and Wesson” or something like that, the other had it’s magazine hanging out of the grip so you could see it clearly below the grip. Obscene! We left immediately, you can’t go anywhere anymore without running into them. Will someome please think of the children?!?
