"This is the video of my experience with SLCPD the day I was told my best friend was shot. at my own Back Yard."
Weimaraner dog shot dead in owners back yard by police who were searching for missing three-year-old boy
Sean Kendall said the Salt Lake City animal control department contacted him and told him a police officer had shot his dog in the head. Kendall said that the dog had been locked up in the fenced backyard of his house.
He drove home and demanded answers about the incident from several police officers who were outside his house.
I remember back when those damned Birchers were all about “Support Your Local Police.” Guess they dropped that crap.
You mean the officer should be charged with first degree murder? Insane.
A yard with a barking dog in it is not likely to contain a child who has wandered in the gate and closed it. This is like Inspector Clouseau except that a dog was slaughtered.
If guilt (and responsibility) had to be placed I would make it about equal for the detective and for the mother of the child who never thought to check the house’s own basement. In a more honorable time, both would at least pony up for something like a respectable pet cemetery plot for the dog, and a new pet if the owner wanted it. Now it’s all excuses and empty “sorries.” And many are seething with rage. Barney Fife had only one bullet for a reason: Andy Griffith had a more level head.
no warrant. they were looking for ‘a lost kid’
strangely enough, there’s always a ‘lost kid’ somewhere.
if this is valid, then they can use this excuse to invade and destroy any property under this exact excuse
As I understand Birch, they were anti-communist first. They saw communist agitation as the root of all challenges to American Institutions. But they were also strong Constitutionalists, who opposed Federal power.
So they would support cops, Law and Order, as opposition to communist agitators.
That may be the root or a root of the law and order conservative movement. Somebody else may have a different take on this issue. I think it is pretty close to describing how small government conservatives came to blindly supporting police violence. This trend is thankfully changing.
And it is sad and shortsighted when people do that.
I saw a sign somewhere: In God we trust. All others pay cash.
Truly we can’t exalt any mere human undertaking, not even the best on the earth.
There were virtues even in the KKK, but over the years it wandered further and further away from biblical ideals and turned into the ugly thing of Jim Crow and anti racial equality days. A snapshot of a scene is not going to be accurate forever.
Are you of the opinion that LEOs are becoming storm troopers? Do you know any police officers? Are you prepared to survive in a society where there aren’t any? Let reason be your guide on this.
Agreed.
This man is a taker of innocent life.
The BLM cops on the Bundy ranch certainly thought they had a license to be stormtroopers until they met armed citizens who disagreed.
Not defending the officers actions here. I would like to say that some here find it perfectly acceptable to lump ALL cops as power hungry freaks, just because a few are, and all cops are aholes, just because a few are. Does it follow that you are ok with cops lumping all people as aholes and threats...just because some are? What is good for the goose... As well, some here seem to have an inordinate number of run ins with cops...
Yes I do know some, and have known Police Officers. Some are good people some are idiots. Put 100 people in a room from any profession, from doctors, soldiers, fire fighters, accountants. Out of 100 some are idiots, some are awesome, some have been idiots and awesome in the course of a career.
People are people. People are highly flawed. Institutions such as medical boards, The Bar, plumbing licensing boards try to keep things in order.
So recognizing that all people are corrupt, and government is made up of people tells us that powers of people MUST be extremely limited. That is the premise behind The USA Constitution. Limited powers, small government. A good practice indeed. Small government means small Police. That is a Jeffersonian view, and that is my view.
All people are corrupt. All cops are people. We have a bill of rights and representative government that is designed to limit the power of government. That is a good thing.
In the course of a 20 year career a “good” police officer could be at different times, heroic, cowardly, honest, corrupt, indifferent and attentive. Remember, we are talking about the same cop here. We are talking about people. Institutions exist to provide accountability and restraint. Why? Because people are corrupt.
In this modern era the 4th amendment is routinely ignored and gamed by the institutions designed to hold Police and Government power in check. Same goes with the 5th, the 1st, go down the line. Since the institutions that we pay for are failing to curtail overreach of government and overreach by Police, what do you want “us” to do?
Ignore the problem?
Wave the Red White and Blue?
Pretend everything is cool in mudville?
Fine, if you like, but that’s not for me.
I intend to vote against sales tax increases and extensions, as well as bond issues having anything to do with public safety. I will also locally support mayoral candidates and city council men and women who will seek to reign in the growing power of police institutions.
That’s what I will do.
Finally you wrote:
“As well, some here seem to have an inordinate number of run ins with cops...”
It is interesting that any time posters oppose the power of the police and the courts this is a common accusation. It almost always comes up. The assumption that opposition to government power, police and cops is evidence of law breaking. Many times your statement manifests itself as “smoked much dope lately?” particularly when the question at hand is drug related property seizures. I never think highly of that argument by the way.
Is this a confession? Can I trust your story?
More to the point: are you pointing to Original Sin?
So you despise Adams, Jefferson, Washington, Franklin? The inevitable corruption of man was I believe the prevailing view. But then again i am giving a serious answer to your snark. My apologies, and lesson learned.
Yes.
Yeah, nobody like is when cops show up. That means somebody’s fun is over, or something bad has happened. Otherwise they wouldn’t be showing up. People don’t call police unless there is a perceived reason. That doesn’t mean that there is always lawbreaking, but police were contacted for something. Do we dislike the govt and police simply because they exist? Or do we dislike police because their attitude sucks? The latter is reasonable
..the former speaks volumes.
So who’s fun was over in this case? The toddler’s?
Cops are necessary. Every society since the dawn of time has had them in one form or another. The problem always is binding them to laws and institutions so they don’t become a bigger problem than they solve. That’s a problem as old as civilization. That’s a problem as old as the first villages that created a chief or a council. Nothing new here. No new issues. I am reminded of when the Israelites demanded a King, and Gods warning. Old old issue. To imagine otherwise is to pretend we don’t sit on the shoulders of 6000 years of civilization and traditions.
We have a Constitution, and institutions that attempt to balance the need for government with the dangers that government inherently creates. Ancient problems. We have a model that will work. The People must vigorously defend the Constitution that keeps government in check. That requires constant push back. Constant questions. Constant demands for accountability.
