$1B in malpractice settlements as horror stories revealed.
The problems at Veterans Affairs extend well beyond long wait lists, with a report Tuesday showing the department is plagued with poor care that has cost up to 1,000 veterans their lives and left taxpayers on the hook for nearly $1 billion in malpractice settlements since the beginning of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Some of the problems detailed in the report by Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma are downright ghoulish. They include the case of a former security chief at a New York Veterans Affairs medical center whom the FBI arrested on charges of plotting to kidnap, rape and murder women and children.
More standard is the nightmarish bureaucratic bungling that shows a department in disarray and a culture more concerned with punishing whistleblowers than with fixing the problems they pointed out, said Mr. Coburn, Senate Republicans chief investigator who has earned a reputation as the top waste-watcher in Congress.
The problems at the VA are worse than anyone imagined, Mr. Coburn said. Over the past decade, more than 1,000 veterans may have died as a result of VAs misconduct and the VA has paid out nearly $1 billion to veterans and their families for its medical malpractice.
The VA has come under fire in recent months over reports that dozens of veterans died while stuck on secret waiting lists at a VA facility in Phoenix. Since then, an inspector generals investigation has found widespread misuse of secret wait lists in a number of facilities. The departments secretary has resigned....

Hell go to S/A Murphy and deal with the nazi pigs. Jackboots from hell.
Try parking there sometime...
It’s just a taste of what 0bamacare will do to the rest of America. The ‘Rats always pointed to the VA as a shining example of government run health care. Stay healthy.
A friend’s father was a patient at the VA hospital here in the Twin Cities for several years, up until the time of his passing. He was diabetic, for the most part, with other old age problems, as well.
He just wasn’t getting any better while there, and she decided to evaluate his care, especially his meds. She discovered that of the 15 or 16 meds that they were giving him, only 2 were really necessary.
She got them to discontinue the worthless meds and his quality of life improved 100%.
Don’t tell me that somebody wasn’t profiting off of the over medication of this veteran and surely tens of thousands more.
My sister just told me today about an incident with her husband at the VA in Dayton,Ohio. They called him and told him he was required to have a certain test after his heart surgery. He told them he had not had heart surgery. They insisted he had and read off his SSN last 4 numbers and said it was right there in his chart. He had to drive to the hospital, pull up his shirt and show them there was no incision scar. Then he went off on them. They told him they didn’t understand what he was so upset about. He told them he was upset about the poor son of a b”””” that had heart surgery and wasn’t going to get his test and he hoped to hell they could figure out who it was!
The best way to get the public’s attention about this is to put up “death counters” of how many soldiers died in Iraq and Afghanistan, vs. how many have died because of VA malfeasance.
Absolutely criminal. I suspect there is going to be some missing email.
I got one for ya:
‘Released’ from V.A. Hospital Alexandria LA 06/20/2014.
Diagnosed with ‘congestive heart failure’ ....
I HAD NONE OF THE TESTS FOR THAT, INCLUDING A HEART ULTRASOUND!!!!!
My BP was an avg. 161/81 in the ward bed - Home health measured it today at 14:39, 100/60!!!!!!
They discharged me, without giving me all the medications prescribed to me. The desk nurse is supposed to go and pick them up from the pharmacy, and go over them with me, before I leave — ‘nevuh happen, GI!’ So what is the remedy? They are going to mail them to me!
They referred me to ‘a kidney specialist “stat”’, while I was in the ward .... the ‘specialist’ is at the Shreveport VAMC, which is under investigation. Did they transport me, while I was an inpatient??? NOOOOO!!! I found out THIS PAST SATURDAY, that I am ‘supposed’ to be there, THIS THURSDAY!! As of this moment, I do not know, whether the V.A. will be transporting me, or not. If not, tough luck to the specialist! Why?
“D’at d’ere city bus don’ git d’at far!”
Also, ON THIS Thursday, they had me scheduled to an appt. in the VAMC Alex Prosthetics, to pick up a blood pressure meter and a scale. HOW COULD I DO THAT, IF I AM TO BE IN SHREVEPORT???
In July, on the same day, they had me in Shreveport, and in Alex, again!
So, there ya go, folks, your tax dollars at work.
None of that surprises me. Are any of your physicians from the United States?

My ‘team doctor’ is Hindi.
One of the ward doctors was Hindi, another ‘a summer fill-in from Chicago’, and the last one was involved, a few years back, in a wrongful death lawsuit, at the Lafayette clinic.
She was American, with one of those yoga-inspired names.
Does that help?
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
My gradeschool buddy’s father had a shoulder problem that was treated at the VA hospital and as a result of an operation, he is now crippled in a wheelchair.
polypharmacy is pretty common.....people demand drugs, drs under the gun to make pts "happy" and to "do something" so more drugs are ordered....
don't tell me that people don't demand more drugs...because they do....and they all want antibiotics for sore throats and headaches.....
this Va "crisis" is not new, and what do you expect of a program that is supposed to serve every single veteren for their entire life.....NOT GOING TO HAPPEN....
I don't know why this VA "crisis" is taking center stage when so much truely evil things are going on, like the irs coverup...but I would guess its a "problem" that has a lot of political upside...
