A friend’s father was a patient at the VA hospital here in the Twin Cities for several years, up until the time of his passing. He was diabetic, for the most part, with other old age problems, as well.
He just wasn’t getting any better while there, and she decided to evaluate his care, especially his meds. She discovered that of the 15 or 16 meds that they were giving him, only 2 were really necessary.
She got them to discontinue the worthless meds and his quality of life improved 100%.
Don’t tell me that somebody wasn’t profiting off of the over medication of this veteran and surely tens of thousands more.
My sister just told me today about an incident with her husband at the VA in Dayton,Ohio. They called him and told him he was required to have a certain test after his heart surgery. He told them he had not had heart surgery. They insisted he had and read off his SSN last 4 numbers and said it was right there in his chart. He had to drive to the hospital, pull up his shirt and show them there was no incision scar. Then he went off on them. They told him they didn’t understand what he was so upset about. He told them he was upset about the poor son of a b”””” that had heart surgery and wasn’t going to get his test and he hoped to hell they could figure out who it was!
polypharmacy is pretty common.....people demand drugs, drs under the gun to make pts "happy" and to "do something" so more drugs are ordered....
don't tell me that people don't demand more drugs...because they do....and they all want antibiotics for sore throats and headaches.....
this Va "crisis" is not new, and what do you expect of a program that is supposed to serve every single veteren for their entire life.....NOT GOING TO HAPPEN....
I don't know why this VA "crisis" is taking center stage when so much truely evil things are going on, like the irs coverup...but I would guess its a "problem" that has a lot of political upside...
