Detroit has too much of some things stray dogs, abandoned houses and not enough of others, such as residents who pay their water bills.
The latest sign of Detroits decline came from the citys water department, when it said in March it would begin shutting off water for up to 3,000 homes and businesses a week in an attempt to stop the utility from sliding even further into debt.
The announcement sparked outrage among activists groups, who say the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) is going after the citys most vulnerable citizens to shore up its bottom line.

Yes, the most vulnerable. The people who are asked to pay for things...

well if they can’t shore up the bottom line, there will be no line and no bottom.

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry when I see the free stuff brigade banging it’s head against the brick wall of cost, and it always does eventually.

The water department can have the freeloaders draw their water from a well in the neighborhood. Works for millions elsewhere who actually live in REAL poverty.

Just cry humanitarian crisis and bus some of our southern invaders into South Detroit. Water service will promptly be restored in the Amish Paradise known as Detroit.

Sounds like Detroit Water is going to shut off the deadbeats, I don’t see a problem. Carrying them for so long was what got them where they are today.

Detroit is a microcosm of what this country will be like if present path remains unchanged. Which is looking more likely, not less.
Like a “B” apocalypse movie we used to see at the drive in.

It is terrifying that something as simple as this can be used to rally a rabble. I don’t believe those calling for reparations actually expect to get forty acres and a mule; I believe it is just to get non-blacks to accept the idea of American blacks as wards of the state (along the lines of American Indians) to be tended by productive people so they don’t have a care in the world.
It is already the reality; they want it enshrined in law.

Hyperbole. The city threatens to cut off water all the time and that's part of the problem. They never actually do cut of chronic non payers.

These shut offs are only for freeloaders who aren’t paying their water bills. Sounds pretty damned reasonable to me.

If you aren't going to pay your water bill, you want the UN to take over the water company? How about if you can't pay your property tax, should you call the UN for housing? Auto insurance?
