When Brooklyn juries gentrify, defendants lose
New York Post ^ | June 16, 2014 | Josh Saul

Brooklyn’s courthouses are being rocked by the “Williamsburg Effect.”

The influx of well-off and educated white people to trendy neighborhoods such as Williamsburg is rapidly “gentrifying’’ the borough’s jury pool — and transforming verdicts, lawyers and judges told The Post.

It’s good news for prosecutors in criminal cases — and bad news for plaintiffs in civil lawsuits, they said.

So putting away criminals who deserve it and throwing out BS lawsuits is now a bad thing?

Such a tragedy. Juries who judge a case on the content of its character and not the color of the plaintiff/defendant's skin.

There are two elements here, white jurors and minority defendants, that predetermine the typical progressive's opinion.

They hate whites and love criminals - especially criminals of color.

What a shame.

Yep. Your re-education is starting to stick. Excellent!

The article is utterly racist, ignoring that what has actually happened, generally speaking, is that there are actually FEWER race related decisions now.

Attorneys usually play two strategies when before a jury: The race card and the stupid card.

Most ordinary people don’t understand this. They might get a small glimpse of it in the OJ trial, for example, but most attorneys are on their best behavior when on TV.

What these lawyers are whining about is that it has become a little bit more difficult in Brooklyn to play the race card and the stupid card before juries. Juries that are more intelligent are less likely to fall for that nonsense.

So the juries are not all black, and are therefore racist.

This amuses me. The fact that Spike Lee has been complaining loudly about the white people moving into to his neighborhood and demanding he change to accept them is also amusing.

I see a lot more highly educated people....Yes, I’ve always believed low information voters and jurors would help straighten this country out./S

“The grand jury used to have an anti-police sentiment. When I was a prosecutor 22 years ago, a jury would be 80 percent people of color,” said high-profile lawyer Arthur Aidala. “Now, the grand juries have more law-and-order types in there.

So... You're saying that black people in general are anti-police, and therefore more likely to acquit a black defendant simply because the defendant is black? Got it.

“We’re dealing with more sophisticated people, and they don’t believe [plaintiffs] should be awarded millions of dollars for nothing.”

So... You're saying that black jurors are more inclined to give defendants "millions of dollars for nothing"? Got it.

Chakmakian settled for $6 million — and later found out that the conservative jury would only have awarded his client $2 million.

So... A bunch of "hipsters" from places like the University of Vermont, or from Wisconsin, are "conservative"? Got it.

“I absolutely felt like I had a much different jury on my hands than I would have had five years ago — they were MBAs and attorneys, everyone had an advanced degree,” Chakmakian said.

So... You're saying that uneducated jurors are better for defendants? Got it.

“There were very few minorities on the jury. It was a real white-bread jury. It’s a whole different ballgame.”

So... You're saying it's bad to have too many "white" people on a jury, but juries that are 80%+ black people are not a problem? And it's ok to refer to white people as "white bread"? Got it.

Maybe this is why the left is so desperate to import a load of new migrants - they have aborted too many of their own.

What a bummer, juries consisting of educated people who base their verdicts on facts and substance rather than feelings and race.

The article says exactly the opposite. The white hipsters are returning verdicts that favor the prosecution, not the defense, in criminal cases.

The writer’s implied disagreement with that is what I’m referring to.

Actually, *they* are complaining about the influx of migrants that are L&O types from UVM (yeah, right...), Wyoming, etc.

Where is the writer's implied disagreement? I don't see it. In fact, I don't see any editorializing by the writer at all, and I frequently see editorializing in a lot of so-called news stories.

Only for criminals who deserve it and people who file BS lawsuits, and the lawyers who act on their behalf. :)
