The U.S. Senate Energy Committee advanced a bill on Wednesday that would force congressional approval of TransCanada's proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline project, but the measure seems unlikely to be taken up by the full Senate.
The bill, the latest effort by lawmakers to breathe life into the long-delayed pipeline from Canada to the U.S. Gulf Coast, will languish without a commitment from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to bring it to a vote.
The measure, from Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and Republican Senators John Hoeven of North Dakota and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, would take a decision on approving the pipeline away from the Obama administration.
Republican Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming termed Wednesday's vote "a cheerleading exercise" but still voted in favor of the bill, part of a 12-10 majority on the panel.
Another measure from Hoeven to approve the pipeline has 55 cosponsors but has not been put to a vote in the 100-member Senate.

Mary can say she voted for it, knowing that Harry will never let it pass

More dog and pony. Canada already gave up on us and is going to build a pipeline to ship the oil to China.
No she can’t. Harry Reid won’t let it come for a vote.
Reid will be detained in Nevada.
The bill will be brought up and passed in the Senate in his absence
That pipeline has also been in the works for several years. Both projects can be built. They are by competiting companies and the Keystone XL has 62% greater flow capacity.
Window dressing by Democrats in the US Senate.
They can claim they’re all for the pipeline and even voted for it, knowing full well Dirty Harry won’t bring it up for a full senate vote.
Don’t they understand that their laws and procedures are just meaningless archaic social constructs like gender or societal norms?
They are by competiting companies

Do you know who those companies are (i.e., the one’s building the pipelines) and who will operate them? Might make be a good investment, especially the Canadian route.

Exactly right. Its a duplicitous and deceitful tactic but the sheeple won’t know the difference. Its the Washington Way. Get elected and learn to dupe the people so you can stay in office.
Outside of widespread fake voting, I don’t think this will save them...
Keystone XL by TransCanada.
Northern Gateway by Enbridge.
Thanks. I see Transcanada has a nice dividend stream of 3.8%. Worth watching in view of changing world oil dynamics.

It’ll pass quickly once the Middle East explodes into war and anarchy.
Sounds like Reid is going rogue. And not just rogue, full rogue.
This is national energy policy and in light of the events going on in the middle east, not putting this on the presidents desk is akin to treason. Or a mental disorder.
And we need to know which.
Congress should force Obama’s hand on the Keystone pipeline project, no action in Iraq unless the Keystone pipeline get’s approved
