US President Barack Obama is not considering military action against al-Raqqa, Syria, the self-declared capital of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), a US official tells The Jerusalem Post.
"At the moment, the options being considered are focused on Iraq," the official said. "Of course, that could always change."
The terrorist militia ravaging the sovereignty of Iraq is headquartered in Syria, where the group gained strength through the strife of the civil war there.
The US is now considering military strikes against the group, two years after pulling troops from the country after nine years of war.
But the decision not to strike in Syria suggests the Obama administration's priority is the protection of the Iraqi government, under threat in its capital of Baghdad, more so than the denigration of ISIS' wider operational capacity.
A backroom deal with Saudis and other nations to replace the Shia govt with a Sunni one, or to split it in 3?
Obama's sympathy for Sunni terrorist/caliphate movement?
Those wild speculations might be very wrong, but the normal explanations don't seem to fit very well either
Why not? I don’t think Putin would object?
Meanwhile Obama will be at some fund raiser with other idiots getting money from the people he most wants to make extinct.
So he’ll apologize to Assad and Putin now? These are the same assholes Obama / McCain wanted to put in power in Syria.
Actions speak louder than words. This beast is Obama’s creation.

Yes they are. They are the Washington government’s proxies.
Always a great idea to tell the enemy what actions you WON’T take against them. /s
There ought to be some good satire out there of King FDR talking down to France as Germany is marching in, or maybe telling the left’s hero Adolf what sanctions we will do and which military options we won’t.
Speaking of Putin, he has yet to move his chess piece on the Iraq issue. When he does, Obama will be further exposed as an incompetent fool.
well I heard that 200 American contractors are surrounded by ISIS at Balad Air Strip and are fighting to hold them off. Will Obama ignore these guys. He made all to do with Bowe Bergdahl —how we don’t leave anyone behind—what about these American contractors? I am not for putting American ground forces back in Iraq, but we have to do some air strikes. And we should help the Kurds if need be. Let the Shia & Sunnis go at it—Iran has already sent in forces to help Shia.
Or Truman taking the A-bomb off the table in '45.
and I will be lmao
I’ve been thinking about this ISIS situation. If Iraq had defended its border with Syria, instead of letting ISIS maniacs roam back at forth at will, ISIS never would have had the ability to take over a huge part of Iraq without a wimper. It all goes back to the US working to topple Assad, and Iraq giving those “friendly freedom fighters” we arm and train free movement.
The Iraqi govt had been fighting against ISIS, they also built a giant berm to stop crossings.
Turkey had waved across lots of rebels to fight Syria though, maybe you’re thinking of them
And why is the US still trying to topple Assad? The only way to stop these maniacs is with governments in the area that still have strong leaders that have not been compromised or hand-picked by the US.
That speech from Obama sure made me feel confident. We are governed by eight year olds.
He wants diplomacy to settle it once and for all.
Unfortunately, that can cost ya yur life these days in Iraq.
Once called a success by Biden and Obama.
Now, nothing more than a death march for far too many
Who bought more than a few lies..
Almost as many as colonic Powell..
NO blood is shed in vain if you will,,
Rather some would seek a kinder way to conduct ‘diplomacy’ in Iraq.
Obama, will monitor the situation this weekend from his golf cart iPad...
Fortunate turn of events for Putin. Price of oil going way up - good for the Russian economy. Focus of US diverted away from Eastern Europe, back onto the Middle East. Old cudgel against the US can be resurrected - Lavrov already quoted as blaming this situation on US and British “intervention” in Iraq (Bush and Blair’s fault).
Iran and China can make hay - China has said they will do anything they can to help Maliki. China has big investments in developing Iraq oil facilities. Iran has an obsession about its security vis-a-vis Iraq - in no way will they ever tolerate a fundamentalist Sunni regime there.
When will Russia and France move in? They would like to resurrect their influence and profitable contracts with Iraq too.
translation: Hey, ISIS, you have a few days to hightail it to Syria and hunker down.
“Turkey had waved across lots of rebels to fight Syria though, maybe youre thinking of them”
Turkish involvement may be extensive. By various accounts, providing training bases, medical support and refuge. They deny providing arms and financial support. They also deny the Armenian genocide of 1915.
