US President Barack Obama declared on Thursday that short-term military actions will have to be taken in Iraq, following the take-over by an Al Qaeda break-off Islamist terrorist group over large portions of the country.

Reuters reported that Obama said he is looking at "all options" as far as helping the government of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, noting "I don't rule anything out," when asked whether the United States is considering drone strikes or any other action to stop the insurgency.

Speaking at the White House while meeting Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbot, Obama said there will be "short-term immediate actions that need to be done militarily in Iraq," and that the US is prepared to take action to defend its security interests.

How short term can it be if the Iraqi forces are still running away even when the odds are wildly in their favor?

I don't know what weaponry the terrorists have, but all I've seen in reports is pickups probably with some 50 caliber machine guns and RPGs and small arms. One would think the Iraqis have enough weaponry to defeat them, but...

Obama noted that it seems something has gone awry...”kinetically”...in the...”overseas contingency operation”.

The Obama Administration will label their response a “tentative preemption intervention” or such.

Meanwhile, has anyone considered that perhaps Obama was sandbagged in Syria. Responding to ever more requests for arms, training and yes money that was stockpiled by the rebels for this ISIS/ISIL operation...???

That’s the $492 million dollar question it seems.

There were some 30,000 Iraqi troops in Mosul. When they were confronted with 800 ISIS fighters, they dropped their weapons and ran. A huge portion of the weapons and equipment we left for the Iraqis is now in the hands of ISIS. (They've also got a half billion dollars to play with now)

It would make sense for him to have most of our best and brightest soldiers over there again dying and fighting and slowly taking back Iraq. That way, they wouldn’t be causing problems on American soil in, say, about two years.. around November 2016 to January 2017.

Enjoy - From Feb 2010:

BIDEN: “I am very optimistic about Iraq. I think it’s gonna be one of the great achievements of this administration. You’re gonna see 90,000 troops come marching home by the end of the summer. You’re gonna see a stable Iraq that is actually moving toward a representative government…I’ve been impressed by how they’ve been deciding to use the political process rather than guns to settle their differences.”

This was Biden’s comment February 11, 2010.

Do not allow Obama to deflect attention from Obamacare. We must walk and chew gum at the same time.

I like how he is using what is happening in Iraq as cover to sneak Bergdahl back into the US in the middle of the night...

From a few photos, it looks like the Iraqis had some tanks and the ISIS terrorists had pickups and 50 caliber machine guns. This thing looks bad from every angle. I guess we'll learn more about the details in the next few days.

Something tells me “short-term” means maximum expenditure of blood & treasure for little or no results.

Obama simply needs to sign an executive order stating that nobody can own a gun in Iraq.

He probably needs to send a couple more ambassadors out to isolated consulates to make friends with the locals.

I would be in favor of this plan if he confined his recruiting to Obama bundlers.

Considering that Iraq was much more successful BEFORE Hussein took over at the White Hut, Biden’s clearly lying there. Not a surprise. Thanks GOPJ.

An American GI will ask a midget “do you people take checks?” and said midget will then erupt, assaulting said GI with nunchucks while he screams “those are illegal!” For details of rules of engagement and predictable results, see opening scenes of Me, Myself and Irene.

Don’t care. Not one more drop of US blood for that shit hole. I spent 13 months there that I will never get it back. Almost bought it a few times. Was lucky. Screw them all.
