If they remain married, it’s because he’s still a man in the eyes of Italian law (hence this whole “transgender” crap is just that)

If they are forced to remain apart then it’s because Italy upholds their traditional view of marriage, if only based on appearance.

Since he is admitting to being mentally unstable at the time of the marriage if she wanted out of it then she should be allowed.
