Special forces found Bergdahl and captors but wouldn’t risk rescue for ‘deserter’
Washington Times ^ | 06/03/2014 | Guy Taylor

The Pentagon on several occasions had ground-level intelligence on where ArmySgt. Bowe Bergdahl was being held captive at various times — down to how many gunmen were guarding him — but special operations commanders repeatedly shelved rescue missions because they didn’t want to risk casualties for a man they believed to be a “deserter,” sources familiar with the mission plans said.

Commanders on the ground debated whether to pull the trigger on a rescue several times in recent years, according to one of the sources, a former high-level intelligence official in Afghanistan, who said the conclusion each time was that the prospect of losing highly trained troops was too high a price to pay for rescuing a soldier who walked away from his unit before being captured by the enemy.

A second source told The Washington Times that the rescue operation plans were “high risk” and became even less attractive in recent months when officials in the Pentagon’s Joint Special Operations Command grew convinced that the Taliban and the militant Haqqani network, whose operatives were holding Sgt. Bergdahl, were eager to cut a deal for his release.

I have seen this many times but was skeptical.
Now I am not.

obama was willing to to have killed over 40 Americans to release a planner of the first attack on the World Trade Center! Omar Abdel Rahman - the “Blind Sheikh”.

Releasing these 5 terrorists will result in many Americans being murdered along with dozens and hundreds of others in Afghanistan and where ever else these terrorists strike.

Agreed. This was negotiating with terrorists not a POW swap. The Taliban is not a nation state, they have no territorial claim that is recognized by the world and they have no uniforms they are simply an indigent terrorist organization of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

You can’t quit the military in war. I would not be in favor of a lengthy prison sentence,....You CAN quit the military in time of war, done the right way. This guy quit and the best thing we could have done is shown up at the exchange site and said we “Have priority cases for this action.” and then shot him in view of the Muzzies. They would have thought twice about our resolve, which we no longer have.

.... The deserter .... Who served with "Honor and Distinction" According to Susan Rice who was deemed to be the most qualified person for the position of National Security Advisor.

Bizarro World.

Meanwhile, Edward Snowden is "treasonous scum of the earth", according to the VERY SAME PEOPLE.

It is to laugh.

Your scenario makes sense. Barry is looking for a way to release the guys at Gitmo and blew it with Chris Stevens so his next choice was to get Berdahl freed. Since this went so horribly off the rails,in the sense that Bergdahl is not a poster boy for the American soldier. I wonder what he’s cooking up in order to release the rest of the terrorists.

I never knew we had a solider being help captive. Could this be the reason the military kept it quite? Because he was AWOL and with the enemy voluntarily?

I remember seeing the video some time ago. Not knowing the circumstances of his capture, I felt deep anger that he was in the hands of those cavemen.

The US is declining like the Roman Empire, and like the Roman Empire at the time of decline in the 3rd-5th century, the Emperor gets into office by promising to provide free stuff to the leeches and lazy.

I don’t think we should have released them to get him or sent anyone to get him. Period. But, we did.

Obama can always pardon Bergdahl if it comes to that--assuming Obama sees it in his own interest to do so.

I wonder if they were planning a big celebration at the White House when Bowe gets back--that might be shelved now. If only FNC had reported the allegations against Bergdahl, the Obama people could brazen it out, but some of the mainstream media have picked up on them.
