President Obama is taking a swipe at the Founding Fathers, blaming his inability to move his agenda on the disadvantage of having each state represented equally in the Senate.
At a Democratic fundraiser in Chicago Thursday night, Mr. Obama told a small group of wealthy supporters that there are several hurdles to keeping Democrats in control of the Senate and recapturing the House. One of those problems, he said, is the apportionment of two Senate seats to each state regardless of population.
Obviously, the nature of the Senate means that California has the same number of Senate seats as Wyoming. That puts us at a disadvantage, Mr. Obama said.
The Founding Fathers decided in the Great Compromise in 1787 to apportion House seats based on population and give each state two seats in the Senate regardless of population. The solution was a compromise between large states and small states in a dispute that nearly dissolved the Constitutional Convention.
The president also blamed demographics for the inability of the Democratic Party to gain more power in Congress, saying Democrats tend to congregate a little more densely in cities such as New York and Chicago. He said it gives Republicans disproportional clout in Congress.
So there are some structural reasons why, despite the fact that Republican ideas are largely rejected by the public, its still hard for us to break through, Mr. Obama said.
He also said Democrats suffer from the congenital disease of not voting in midterm elections.

“Only proves he believes in Dictator.”
I’m thinking His Highnesty would prefer the word “King”.
These are the words of a Tyrant seeking to overthrow the foundational principles of the republic.
What our Founders did not think to put in the Original Constitution was TERM LIMITS on both president and Congress, and to make the Senate a 4 yr term, and set pay rates, no retirement, and how long a bill could be. Make USSC a ELECTED office where justices are accountable to the People. Some of the Secretarial post should be elected too.
In Obama's view the flyover states, which tend to be more conservative, would have virtually no say in Congress and only a few large population and liberal states would control Congress. The same is true for doing away with the electoral college and going to solely a popular vote for POTUS. Again small population states would become irrelevant in presidential elections and a few large states would control who was elected POTUS.
Obama's Constitutional scholarship is farcical and his revisions to the Constitution would disenfranchise half the the country
I agree, but it serves no purpose to go after anything that cannot be proven. We can prove that he is not a Natural Born Citizen and insomuch where the focus ought to be directed. Not all of these other unprovable nuances that just muddy the water from focus.
Once the determination has been made that he is not and therefore ineligible, he and the entire cabal needs to be prosecuted and incarcerated to the FULLEST extent the law allows, including treason and sedition.
He wrote the book on it. . . . . . .
What makes him even worse, is that NOBODY has told him he is. . . . .
Which leads us to the fact that the GOP is incapable of fighting back either out of incompetence or by choice. Reagan was the last person in my memory who was able to rise above the rabble and say what needed to be said without fear. We have a few conservatives who are doing the same, but they are labled as wackos, even by their own party.
Even here where we should all support one another in our cause, the tendency toward kneejerk reactions is our biggest undoing.
A few willful people, or an absolute oaf, can bring gridlock to any system of human commerce.
The US Constitution was written for men of a certain moral stance, and is applied through Christian principles. While you may or may not believe in Christ, the principles exist largely independent of that exercise of faith. There was a certain assumption about the basic level of reading and reasoning capability, as well, and the expectation that the electorate would be well-informed on the issues of the day.
Many of these pre-conditions either are greatly diminished or no longer exist in the psyche of many people, which may be approaching a majority.
Obama would have nothing to say if he couldn’t blame someone for something... If only HE could have been Adam in the garden of Eden, we wouldn’t have the world of mess we have today...
And yet the House which IS based on population is controlled by the Republicans. And the Senate which is based on the states is controlled by the rats.
But clearly this shows their thinking. They think if everything was population based, they would win. Hence the attempts to bypass the electoral college.
Pretty sure that was the point.
Perhaps the following essay might explain their carefully-conceived and implemented plan. The same web site contains other essays from "Our Ageless Constitution," easy-to-read writings which might serve to inform all who need further explanation of America's strict constitutional barriers protecting "the People's" liberty from would-be rulers.
America's Founders had just declared themselves free of a tyrannical government. They were determined that such tyranny would never be repeated in this land. Their new charter of government - the Constitution - carefully defined the powers delegated to government. The Founders were determined to bind down the administrators of the federal government with Constitutional chains so that abuse of power in any of its branches would be prevented. The revolutionary idea of separation of powers, although unpopular at first, became a means by which this was to be accomplished.
John Adams, in a letter to Dr. Benjamin Rush, stated: "I call you to witness that I was the first member of Congress who ventured to come out in public, as I did in January 1776, in my 'Thoughts on Government,' ...in favor of a government with three branches, and an independent judiciary..." By the time the Constitution was adopted, the idea was supported by all of the members of the Convention. James Madison, the father of the Constitution, devoted five Federalist Papers (47-51) to an explanation of how the Executive, Legislative, and judicial branches were to be wholly independent of each other, yet bound together through an intricate system of checks and balances. Madison believed that keeping the three branches separated was fundamental to the preservation of liberty. He wrote:
"The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many... may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny."
George Washington, in his Farewell Address, reminded Americans of the need to preserve the Founders' system. He spoke of the "love of power and proneness to abuse it which predominates in the human heart" and warned of the "necessity of reciprocal checks of political power, by dividing and distributing it into different depositories and constituting each the guardian ... against invasions by the others." Of such checks and balances through the separation of powers be concluded, "To preserve them must be as necessary as to institute them."
Pathological, for sure. But fortunately -- even with the MSM doing their best to cover for him in every instance -- he's not very good at it. You see, to be a good liar you need a certain level of intelligence that obama is obviously lacking.
You can't change the constitution, you dumb a$$. We know you and your Marxist friends want to.
How did he manage to graduate and then teach in his field????
Seriously?
Thus proving the wisdom of our founding fathers in creating a system that confounds a wannabe dictator more than 200 years after they’re gone.
What is the structure of the ruling group of Kenya?
Perhaps he is confused.
