Pentagon is weighing allowing some immigrants brought illegally to the country as youths to serve in the military, a unilateral step by the Obama administration as immigration legislation remains stalled in the Republican-led House.
The announcement came Tuesday as House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, defended his election-year decision to rebuff a narrow immigration measure pushed by a GOP congressman to achieve a similar goal.
The Pentagon consideration would apply to immigrants who arrived illegally as kids but already have received work permits and relief from deportation under a program President Barack Obama announced two years ago, called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA. More than 500,000 immigrants have benefited from the program.

israel does many things worth criticizing, like any other country
No not at all....we’re headed down the same path though—Dark Ages and all.
Our modern Foederati may very we’ll include segments of our enemies. Just like Rome!
This will open the door for thousands of Muslim legal immigrants and refugees who have been part of a massive importing program of Hillary and Obama for the past five years - they are everywhere and few are working.
If I recollect my history, it’s when Rome began using foreign mercenaries that the empire began declining and falling in earnest.
Constitutional or not, I have a big problem with it. First, the military is downsizing forcing tens of thousands of enlisted and officers out of the service. We don't have a recruitment problem. So we need illegal aliens to do jobs Americans and legal immigrants can't or won't do? Why should we allow an illegal alien to compete with our own citizens?
We have a program for legal immigrants (green card holders) to serve and receive expedited citizenship. They cannot be officers due to security clearance issues.
We don't need the US military to be a clearinghouse for amnesty. As a veteran who believes that military service is a privilege and an honor, I see no reason to admit illegal aliens who are in violation of our laws. And there are national security considerations as well.
I say not only no, but hell no to allowing illegal aliens to serve in the US military--as is currently the case. We all know that the pro-amnesty advocates are using this issue as a way to place the camel's nose under the tent.
The respect and admiration the American people have for the military is being used as a vehicle to grant a limited amnesty and make it acceptable. Then they can expand it in much the same way as the so-called Dreamer amnesty is being used. In fact those eligible to serve are being drawn from those granted legalization thru Obama's backdoor Dreamer amnesty that has legalized 500,000 people and issued them SSNs and work permits.
as far as i am concerned, the birth of Christ to the tribe of Benjamin, and His death on the Cross is the completion of God’s covenant with israel. with the release of the jews by cyrus the great and their return to israel, the prophesies for the jews’ return to their land was fulfilled, first of all
secondly, with regard to the state of israel, their continued construction of settlements on the occupied west bank, in land owned by both arab christians and muslims, is wrong.
Would not doubt this as a plan, stupid as it is. Look at Venezuela where Kirshner freed inmates from jail who later ended up on goon squads for the government.
Wrong. Explain the 144,000 in the Book of Revelation. Explain God’s protection of his people outlined in the Book of Revelation. As to your other accusation, you sound like one of those “Christ in the Checkpoint” liberals who ignore Israel’s right to exist, but have oh so much sympathy for homocide bombers on school buses in Israel. The Biblical borders (and as a Christian you should know this) of Israel, defined by God Himself, are to the Euphrates river to the east, and far beyond to the south, north, and west. The “settlements” you complain of are the right of any nation to build housing. It is Satanic to oppose that.
The way around this problem is for the US to create the equivalent of a “foreign legion”, limited to a large Caribbean island. While run by US officers and NCOs, it could have personnel from around the world. It would not be permitted to set foot in the US.
The purpose of this would be as a cost saving exercise.
This force would be trained as “very light infantry”, not for any serious combat mission, but for the stupidly expensive and extended “guard duty” missions that cost tremendous amounts of money and degrade our military.
Spending billions of dollars training and equipping top soldiers to stand around with their thumb inserted is a waste beyond waste.
So basically, rifles and radios for these foreign legionnaires. They can also pitch in a lot of labor for humanitarian missions.
Our military is now too small to be squandered on such missions. It needs to be used only for real missions.
Private enterprise tried to create a serious combat legion with Blackwater, but it was too much, and made too many enemies in our own government.
I am not sure if it was clear from my post but I remain against it for Constitutional grounds, despite the fact that I think it would be one of the ONLY fitting ways to grant citizenship.
We do allow people to obtain citizenship by other methods. This, in my opinion, would be one of the better methods.
“can one criticize israel and not be an anti-semite?”
Absolutely.
But there sure is a lot of overlap.
If illegal aliens realize they could end up in a VA hospital, they might not sign up!
Yea, that’s smart. Allowing criminals to be trained in using guns and to have guns. What could possibly go wrong? Fools!
On what basis? Technically, illegal aliens are supposed to register for the draft. Depending on the circumstances, they can be forced into the military or some sort of national service.
We do allow people to obtain citizenship by other methods.
Be specific about the other methods. And as far as I can determine, we have not allowed illegal aliens to serve knowingly in the military and provided them a path to citizenship. Why is this a better method? Why is it necessary?
first of all, i have never disputed israel’s right to exist. secondly, i don’t apply theology to international relations; i apply the national interest of the united states. third, the Apocalypse was written at a specific time, to comfort the church during a time of vicious roman persecution
let me ask you this: is benjamin netanyahu saved?
I read somewhere that a large percentage of enlistees are denied because of downsizing, education and health issues. But lets just close one more door to Americans getting a good start.
and the Romans hired barbarians to fill the army posts vacated by the soft, elite citizens.
and then the barbarians attacked and sacked Rome.
You don’t apply theology to international relations? You don’t believe that God has a foreign policy? He does, and it favors Israel. Read your Bible...you are a Christian, you said so. Are you affiliated with liberal groups or congregations? If you are, divorce yourself from them.
Good question. No, not yet. Netanyahu is not a child of Christ. do I believe that God Himself chose him to lead Israel at this moment in history? absolutely. Don’t you? Isaiah predicted events beyond human political comprehension. You do not believe that God rules in the affairs of men? again, what is your specific problem with the Jews?
