Pentagon is weighing allowing some immigrants brought illegally to the country as youths to serve in the military, a unilateral step by the Obama administration as immigration legislation remains stalled in the Republican-led House.

The announcement came Tuesday as House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, defended his election-year decision to rebuff a narrow immigration measure pushed by a GOP congressman to achieve a similar goal.

The Pentagon consideration would apply to immigrants who arrived illegally as kids but already have received work permits and relief from deportation under a program President Barack Obama announced two years ago, called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA. More than 500,000 immigrants have benefited from the program. …

Odd that the author would use the word kids instead of children.

SoCal gang members have been joining the military for some time now in order to learn better combat skills and for access to weapons. Which they bring back to the streets.

This latest stroke of genius by Obama, and without a doubt seconded by the GOPe, will just increase the problem.

Which illegal aliens do they plan to take in preference to the Americans?
_____________________________________

ALL of them...

there wont be any rejecting of 6 of 10 enlistment applications for the illegal aliens...

and just imagine...

American citizens would have to answer to illegal aliens superiors...

How would you handle a sgt who was here illegally and didn’t love our country or mean it when he took the oath of office ???

He could give you an Article 15 and hes not even here legally ...

This did NOT work out well for the Romans.

Ah, yes. Quite true, it didn't. There are many parallels to history that don't bode well for us as it is.

I fear it is a deliberate part of a larger, grander scheme.

There's plenty of legal immigrants from the third world who bear a grudge against American natives.

Americans who don't have the chance to read ethnic newspapers would be surprised.

Currently the U.S. military is rejecting about 6 of 10 enlistment applications from Citizens of the United States.

Which illegal aliens do they plan to take in preference to the Americans?

Exactly what I was thinking, thank you, you stated it in much nicer terms than were ringing in my head.

Constitutio Antoniniana (aka Rome legalizes all non-citizens)

The Roman Jurist Ulpian in his work Digest stated ‘All persons throughout the Roman world were made Roman citizens by an edict of the Emperor Antoninus Caracalla’.

The context of the decree is still subject to dicussion. According to Cassius Dio the reasons Caracalla passed this law were mainly to increase the number of people available to tax. In the words of Cassius Dio: “This was the reason why he made all the people in his empire Roman citizens; nominally he was honouring them, but his real purpose was to increase his revenues by this means, inasmuch as aliens did not have to pay most of these taxes.”[2] It should, however, be noted that Cassius Dio generally saw Caracalla as a bad, contemptible emperor.

Another goal may have been to increase the number of men able to serve in the legions, as only full citizens could serve as legionaries in the Roman Army. Despite what might have been seen as easy benefits, the edict came at the cost to the auxiliaries, which primarily consisted of non-citizen men, and led to barbarization of the Roman military.

Additionally, before the edict, one of the main ways to acquire Roman citizenship was to enlist in the army, the completion of service in which would give the citizenship to the discharged soldier. The edict of 212 may have made enlistment in the army less attractive to most, hence the recruiting difficulties of the Roman army by the end of the 3rd century.

If they are “eyeing” them, then deport them and let them join the Mexican army.

Just as it's true that whenever I look at a minority doctor...or lawyer...or cop,I ask myself “qualified,or affirmative action?” I think I'll start asking myself the same question whenever I see a member of our Armed Forces.Just another reason why I despise Osama Obama...calling into question the fitness of individuals and institutions that once were clearly worthy of respect.

Obama had to get his army somewhere.

That said, given how the military rejects 80% of potential recruits, I don’t see why this would be needed or effective, except as a political stunt.

If Obama has an illegal alien in uniform to point to during a State Of the Union Address it will be the first time Moochele is proud of her military.

The Media will dutifully...after a pause and with a teary in their eye...parrot that the illegals are doing the jobs that Americans won’t do.

Well we need jobs and the military is a job. Sorry but why are we lookimg to give away even more jobs? Its living in the past to not recognize that service is more than that at this time. Its a replacement for college. Its taken the place of apprentice prograams.
No. We can’t view joingh the military as simple serving thee country any longer. Its far more than that.
