Matt Bevin seemed like the ideal candidate to challenge Mitch McConnell. The handsome and personable businessman, a father of nine, impressed national conservative groups looking for a chance to knock off the Senate Republican leader.
These groups, from the Senate Conservatives Fund to FreedomWorks, the Tea Party Patriots and the Madison Project, invested more than $1 million in the Kentucky GOP primary. Bevin himself spent more than $3 million, including $1 million of his own fortune.
And, yet, polls indicate hes going to get creamed Tuesday.

I expect he'll lose in the general. He didn't win any conservative votes by publicly declaring war on conservatism.

Exactly. Money trumps principles in today's Fascist Amerika.
It will be interesting, although probably sickening, to watch the McConnell campaign go completely sissy in the general.
Already a done deal. McConnell was already running ads against Grimes stating she supports Obama - and that's it. The DNC is going to wipe the floor with Mitch.
if he stayed in character and turned on us right after reelection there was no getting me back. He was doomed with me within months of his last reelection.
Not only did McConnell publicly declare war on Conservatives and promise to 'crush' us wherever he found us - he is going to continue to do so. McConnell already lost most of us Conservatives and most of us have vowed to either sit out or write in a Conservative in the General.
Grimes wins hands-down in November. Deservedly so.
Better the devil we know than the traitor in our midst pretending to be our leader.
>> what gives with posting a leftwing article about how all is lost when the election isnt over?
Inside baseball for the informed here at FR.
The LIVs may succumb to Politico’s agenda, but not for the critical analysis offered here.
Rand Paul did this. He backed McConnell in exchange for a seat on the foreign relations committee. He sold us out in exchange for power.
McConnell has won his primary fight!!! In the end.......Bevin could not cut the mustard!!! I cannot stand McConnell....but unlike many of the Freepers posting on this site this evening......I believe McConnell will beat Grimes in the general election....come November!!! Kentucky is a “Red” state.....there is no way...an Obamabot nutcase is going to best McConnell. Obama approval ratings in Kentucky are in the tank big time. Me.....I want to defeat every Democrat that is running....period!!! McConnell has won. He is the candidate!!! Bevin has had his fair shot....he blew it!!! End of story!!!
You are a confused man. Let’s take the current flap over the VA (fill in doctors, lawyers, teachers)...many will jerk their knee and claim “not all are bad, some are really good people”. I don’t buy it.
A good teacher doesn’t whitewash the bad ones. Ditto doctors, lawyers, cops, firefighters, etc. So why is every single time the “good” ones do nothing when the bad ones are exposed? And usually their unions go to bat for them.
I clearly explained my comments why I don’t believe he is a “good man”. He’s not good when his ideas, especially if he became president (thank God that didn’t happen) HURT MILLIONS!
Grow up.
I wish you were right... The RINO parade will continue to be elected because people see just the “R” and nothing else...
We still have lots of work to do...
The only way to have snatched victory from the jaws of defeat was if Mitch was to have been found to have set up the cockfighting appearance.

Do I need to embarass you and point out that it’s happened in fairly recent history?
Pick any competition if a military campaign isn’t to your liking. The point is, our side doesn’t need cowards.
And from what I hear, he only won by 6 points last time. A lot of fine voters have been kicked in the head by McConnell. They won't turn out for him this time. He's made a lot of conservative enemies.
/johnny
Dems won't vote for him, and he's declared conservatives his enemy. He doesn't have too many friends left.
Yeah. This is now the democrats race to lose I'm afraid.
Not much motivation for ole Mitch.
The good part is that there won't be much difference in the votes in the Senate if she does win. She'll support Reid... McConnell has supported Reid.
/johnny
Polls at this point mean absolutely nothing!!! Talk to me around the middle of October, 2014. Bevin could have made this a real race.....he didn’t!!! Campaigning at a “cock” fight don’t cut the mustard!!!
It surely does. Our nation will reap what it sows.
McConnell will have to do it without Conservatives like me voting for him. I doubt there are that many "moderates" in this Commonwealth. Grimes wins the General.
I will be writing in a Conservative in November.
I'd rather a Democrat take the seat and know who my enemy is than one that has declared war on Conservatives, demonized us and our candidate and pretends to represent us while enabling Obama's agenda via stealth.
