Matt Bevin seemed like the ideal candidate to challenge Mitch McConnell. The handsome and personable businessman, a father of nine, impressed national conservative groups looking for a chance to knock off the Senate Republican leader.
These groups, from the Senate Conservatives Fund to FreedomWorks, the Tea Party Patriots and the Madison Project, invested more than $1 million in the Kentucky GOP primary. Bevin himself spent more than $3 million, including $1 million of his own fortune.
And, yet, polls indicate hes going to get creamed Tuesday.

“A bit moderate, maybe,...”
You know, that sentiment is not merely an opinion; it’s a symptom.
If you’re able to rationalize away the harsh realities to the point that you assess Romney as merely “a bit moderate” what other politically fatal realities are you carrying to the poll with you? I’m not telling you; I’m asking you. Do your own introspection, but your external talk is coming off as fairly representative of the noncommittal wasteland that is the “squishy middle,” and THAT is a rent district The United States simply CANNOT afford to live in.
Sorry. Wrong.
Feinstein would not have gotten her toe hold.
Huffington could not be worse.
McConnell, much as I am angered by him is light years better than any Dem.
He is old. Get him next time
One or two more terms is infinitely better than having a Dem in that position, and giving a position that often becomes life long to a Dem out of spite is a bad decision.
Life live in reality. Bevin has no chance.
Which is still a good thing, if a liberal republican loses a leadership position. And it won't make any difference, since Mitch currently votes to support Reid.

There's a good point. Bevin chose to go after (arguably) the strongest republican in the Senate. McConnell is the likely majority leader if the republicans take over. That's a tough nut to crack for a guy making his first runn in politics.
Yes.
GOPe need to learn.
There are voters who won’t vote for the RINOs.
Polls showed Bevin would win the general. But McConnell polled much higher than Bevin in the primary.
It makes sense.
>> Bevin never had any chance. <<
His Wash DC “consultants” probably knew that from the beginning — and now they’re laughing all the way to the bank!
Especially with a lot of really pissed off conservatives that will skip voting for him in the general election, because he has declared open war on conservatives.

Yes, I am sick of being betrayed, but at the same time, I am not slobbering thinking McConnell is going to lose tonight, because he isn't.
We definitely need new leadership, but I'm not certain where that is going to come from. Republicans used to have excellent leaders, but there are none anymore. If McConnell lost, do you really think, the rest of the senators will vote for Cruz? I don't think so because there are not enough conservatives in the ranks.
The country doesn’t deserve McConnell as senate minority leader.
The country doesn’t deserve McConnell as senate minority leader.
McConnell is just like all the rest of them. They believe they are better than the average citizen and deserve a bigger piece of the American pie. So, they want to line their pockets and make sure their kids and grandkids are wealthy.
Once a good guy gets elected he’s told to tow the line or he will be destroyed by the elites and eventually forced to go back home or over to K street. And those who join the club are protected by every means possible. Every now and then one of them will be voted out. But that will happen long after he’s cashed in.
Agree. I don’t even understand why this is in breaking news.
Anyone that supports abortion, does not support firearm rights, establishes socialized medicine, supports increasing the size of government, and approves of 'gay marriage' is a liberal. Romney is a liberal, using those tests.
You can rationalize all you like, but you are deluding yourself in your love of party over principle.
The purist liberals will not accept conservatism and have said so, with the Chamber of Commerce types saying they would support Hillary if a conservative like Cruz is nominated. They are absolutists against conservatism.

That is a well stated summary of politics in America today. There does not seem to be a solution to what you described - at least, at the moment, there is no solution.
At the very least we sent the message we will not hesitate to start primarying these dirtbags out of office.
Plus we forced the rinos to spend money on a primary.
Didn’t matter. No one was going to beat the national GOPe machine here. McConnell’s funds were almost unlimited.
It will be interesting, although probably sickening, to watch the McConnell campaign go completely sissy in the general.
I have only my gut feeling, which is based on my own feelings more than anything else, but I think McConnell is going to lose the general in a close race. My feeling is that conservatives are going to abandon McConnell in droves. I voted for him 6 years ago as the lesser of two evils, but decided then if he stayed in character and turned on us right after reelection there was no getting me back. He was doomed with me within months of his last reelection.
It’s kind of like your wife promising to be faithful after numerous affairs and then you come home to find her eagerly servicing an entire NFL team. No more promises, no more lying, no more selling us out.
.
NO more Mitch McConnell. Harry Reid will have to get his blow jobs somewhere else
“The election is over”
Except it’s not. Hope you opted to not go into the military. Hate to imagine you marshalling the forces.
“Look, most of you will die and we’ll probably lose this battle. Hell, I want to surrender right now. Now let’s all go and die.”
