Appearing Sunday on NBCs Meet the Press, Ben Carson stood by an earlier comment he made about Obamacare being the worst thing since slavery.
Speaking at the Values Voter Summit in October, the retired neurosurgeon said the Affordable Care Act is the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery.
And it is in a way, he said then. It is slavery in a way, because it is making all of us subservient to the government, and it was never about health care. It was about control.
Host David Gregory ran a clip of the comment, then put Carson on the spot.
Obama, US embassies fail to recognize Armed Services Day, see what they tweeted instead
First, recognize what I said, Carson replied. The worst thing since slavery. I didnt say it was slavery.
You said it is slavery in a way, Gregory chimed in, reading Carsons quote back to him.
In a way anything is slavery that robs you of control of running your own life, Carson answered, showing a verbal fluency that rivals the great orator of the left, Barack Obama. And, when you take the most important thing you have, which is your health care, and you put that in the hands of government bureaucrats, I think you have done the wrong thing.
Carson made reference to neo-Marxist literature, which had the assembled panels full attention.
You go back and look at the neo-Marxist literature and look at what they say, you dont have to look at what I say, about taking control of the health care of a populace and making the people dependent, he said. This is not what America is about.

The liberals will criticize and demonize Dr. Carson. Even though he’s black, and theoretically part of a grievance group which cannot be criticized, the exception to that is that Carson is not liberal.
To the liberal, if you are a minority, homosexual, female, you by definition are supposed to be liberal and find your political home in the Democrat party. It offends their sensibilities to find members of their favorite groups which think for themselves and don’t fall in line with the liberal theology on the subjects being discussed.
Just another veiled racial attack on Barack Obama by another self-hating black. (/Gregory)
When Gregory or any MSM clone takes issue with him I’d love to see Carson say; “You don’t agree with me? Are you racist?”
Of course this goes for Cain, West, Elder, Sowell, et. al.
Dr. Carson sure hit a nerve here, didn't he?
I want him to run so I can watch him debate.
How dare Dr. Carson stray off the liberal reservation and challenge their authority. Don’t these people of color know how how good the Democratic Party is to them? What an Uncle Tom! Tell me if you don’t think David Gregory wasn’t thinking that?
In essence they have traded the Plantation for the Reservation.
Love Dr. Carson.
Yeah, what does he think he is -- a brain surgeon?
LOL!
With any luck, more than a few lightbulbs went on in black Democrat households upon hearing that sentence.
I still have to believe that there will still be a fairly good number of Blacks who will vote for a Black man for Prez even if he is running on the GOP Ticket. Same for Hispanics.
His soft voice and calm presentation makes it difficult for rats to characterize him as a typical Tea Party supporter who knuckle-drags and is a retard.
I’m hearing he has some opinions on the 2nd amendment that may be of a concern, other than that he is a libs worst nightmare. An educated black man who is where he is because he did it himself and throws the BS flag on obama every chance he gets.
Adam Smith, in 1775, along with the wise Founders of America, seemed to be quite clear that individual liberty and limited government power were and are the foundation stones of opportunity, creativity, prosperity, and wealth creation. That principle applies to all people in all places of the globe, in every century.
Every step away from the American Constitution's principles and protections for individual liberty and its limits on coercive power has served to reduce wealth creation and to increase poverty.
Let there be no mistake: Democrats never waged a "war on poverty"!
There was a war on "the People's" Constitutional limits on their elected representatives' use of coercive power to "take" and "redistribute" the people's earnings, under the guise of "helping" some.
Growing a voter base in order to retain power ceded to them by kind-hearted American citizens who could not distinguish between the merits of private charity and the dangers of coercive collective power has brought us to today's debt, deficits and endangered liberty for all citizens.
Perhaps a reading of Congressman Davy Crockett's (TN) experience might be a revealing exercise for those who don't see the dangers of turning over our individual responsibilities to those who promise to "help us."
The current Democrat appeal for "fair share" and against "inequality of income" represent a form of "slavery" by another name. Government "masters" buy votes in exchange for retaining their "master redistributionist" status, while their "voters" yield up freedom for themselves and future generations.
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C. S. LewisHear Samuel Adams:
"Is it now high time for the people of this country to explicitly declare whether they will be free men or slaves. It is an important question which ought to be decided. It concerns more than anything in this life. The salvation of our souls is interested in this event. For wherever tyranny is established, immorality of every kind comes in like a torrent, it is in the interest of tyrants to reduce the people to ignorance and vice. - Samuel Adams
And:
The utopian schemes of leveling and a community of goods, are as visionary and impractical as those which vest all property in the crown. These ideas are arbitrary, despotic, and, in our government unconstitutional. - Samuel Adams
If you love Dr Carson, you’re a racist!
Let’s see: The government purposely makes the costs of Obamacommiecare so high that the majority of people can’t afford it. Then in come the fines - oh excuse me - “taxes” that will be levied on these people for not buying Obamacommiecare. And we just know these “taxes” are never going to go higher, yeah and Pelosi is a conservative. So what you end up with is communism brought in through the back door. The government now has a reason to take anything and everything you own if you can’t pay these “taxes”, in essence you are now a slave to the government which was the whole purpose of this debacle in the first place, mission accomplished. In the 1800s how many people were slaves? Well now it will be pretty much anybody who isn’t rich. DAMN RIGHT it is the worst thing since slavery
Love Dr. Carson.
While I don;t agree with his stance on Gun Control, from what I see he is a reasonable man and if he was in office would take a measured approach on things like this.
Well, it isn't so much ‘fluency’ as it is intellect and command of the facts.
Because if you are not clear headed or informed, then you won't achieve ‘fluency'of any kind. And it's a funny thing about fluency... it's one of those tings you just can't FAKE!!
People fail to see that. Mr. Carson is brilliant, because he is able to focus and never ignores logic. It's really like comparing apples to oranges if you would draw a similarity between Carter and "O". "O" is NOT informed and never appears to apply LOGIC in any statements or observations that he makes.
