Bush addressed a Manhattan Institute crowd along with Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), who has also embraced amnesty legislation, and doubled down on his support for an immigration reform bill that the Congressional Budget Office determined would lower the wages of American workers while not securing the border.
"For the life of me I have a hard time understanding why people are fearful of our own heritage, our own history," Bush reportedly said. "The rules are you come to this country, you pursue your dreams, you create value for yourself and your families and others and great things happens to you and to our country. Why would we ignore that at time when we need to restart and rejuvenate our economy? It makes no sense to me."
Bush has said illegal immigration is an "act of love" and also is a huge proponent of Common Core. He has been relentless in promoting amnesty and pushing for Common Core as he ponders a 2016 presidential run.
A recent Washington Post poll found that a majority of Americans would not vote for Jeb Bush in a general election, and some attendees reportedly complained of Bush fatigue in an appearance in which Bush was well received by more moderate Northeastern Republicans.

Why does need to be pres?
He could rent out his forehead for Reid’s solar panels.
Only Jeb would say something like this to liberal Republicans.
If he’s for amnesty, is he also for Obamacare?
Inquiring minds would like to know.
A country with no borders is not a country.
Assuming he wins the white house, I cant see him serving 8 years. I think he would lose to a democrat after his first term. Same as his daddy did.
I agree with that. No disagreement here.
It prevents us from even coming close to winning with a Conservative though.
It’s going to take a populist with the right message and the right policies to over-ride the GOPe, the RNC, and the Leftist Republican Talking Heads.
Nope. All you have to do is look at California to see the future of this country.
If amnesty is passed, there will never be another GOP Congress and President.
That would be the death of America and Jeb doesn’t understand why conservatives oppose it.
Unrestricted immigration and using the so-called immigrants as political pawns is an old old strategy for the worst and most vile in American politics .
It destroyed our country before , during and after the Civil War , things haven’t been the same since and it’s getting ramped up again . CLOSE THE DAMN BORDERS . Enough already . It’s a tsunami ....
I don’t know. Honestly. The 2000 reincarnation won twice, but boy what squeakers those were.
Tell you what, if you don’t realize you in trouble when you can’t beat the likes of Al Gore or John Kerry by wider margins than that, you’re a clueless individual.
Stay out the bushes!
Another Bush dummy
we know you don’t understand it, jeb.
Every single third world dirt bag that crosses our border illegally has committed a Felony. Hey Jeb, that's not love that's criminal.
We need to do what President Eisenhower carried out: Operation Wetback.
Hey Jeb - it’s NOT YOUR country to give away. Look around - you and your family aren’t the only people living here... It’s the United States NOT BushLand...
He HAS to know this amnesty talk just drives conservatives crazy. I’m no conspiracy theorist, but it could be he’s intentionally trying to crush our enthusiasm. That would likely help the GOPe incumbents. However, it’s more likely he really believes this crap. That just shows how out of touch Jeb Bush is with the Republican base. Despite the best efforts of the powers that be, most Americans do not want amnesty, aka comprehensive immigration reform.
I gotta say I’d probably want unlimited immigration if I was an unprincipled CEO who wanted to bring in more skilled labor. That’s so much easier than hiring Americans who might need additional training to do the work. Forget about building a talented workforce of Americans. Import whatever one needs.
This mentality pisses on America. Who cares about the impact to our culture when we import millions of people who hold un-American, foreign concepts like socialism? Who cares if an American who needs work remains unemployed? Every American brought out of dependency makes this country that much stronger, and the benefits last decades!
I’m sorry, but Romney was the final straw for me.
Same for me. If there isn't a true Conservative at the top of the ticket, I will do a write-in.
These arrogant elitists think we will continue to vote for the slightly less of two evils. 2012 was the very last time for me.
Perfect for the GOP-e!

Jeb Bush: Opposing Amnesty ‘Makes No Sense to Me’
Opposing Jeb ‘Makes A lot of Sense to Me’
Got enough damned illiterates sitting on their asses drawing welfare already.
DANG!
“Its going to take a populist with the right message and the right policies to over-ride the GOPe, the RNC, and the Leftist Republican Talking Heads.”
I keep writing the same thing. Believe it or not, there really is a lot of common ground between Democrat and Republican voters. It’s just not the same common ground the political elites (in both parties) think.
Americans are sick and tired of foreign entanglements. They don’t want amnesty. The don’t want unlimited abortion on demand at any time for any reason. They don’t want government collecting metadata, aka unconstitutionally spying, on them. Marriage “equality” isn’t a big priority (unlike the media’s spin). They’re tired of all the government waste and the crony deals with insiders (corporations, banks, etc). They’re sickened by the way everything is made in China these days, and most important of all, they want JOBS!
I’m not even an American and I understand it. Unconditional amnesty sends the wrong message and rewards the wrong people. Let’s say you’re sitting around in central America wondering if it’s worth taking the risk of paying people to smuggle you into Arizona. Then you hear that everyone who did that over 25 years can grab all the benefits of citizenship without paying any sort of penalty. The risk then reduces to whether you’re caught or not. And you have to figure, how hard are they going to look for me, if they have this sort of policy?
Those calculations might not always be true, but over time they will increase the tide of illegal immigration. At this point, what I would suggest is a conditional amnesty. If people come forward within a specified time, if they are willing to sign documents that they will pay a tax surcharge for the rest of their working lives, and/or a substantial fine, then they can stay. If they refuse or don’t come forward and get caught, then it’s automatic deportation. I am quite tempted to say deport the lot, but this way you get some of the benefits of the more productive and their offspring, and an implied commitment to the country that was lacking in the first instance. In any case, it seems unlikely that anyone would come forward voluntarily if there was no either/or proposition. Of course, it’s just the suggestion of an outsider and I fully respect the concept that it’s your call, your country. This is what I would advise, anyway. It might help the economy to take this approach. No doubt there is a correlation between illegal immigration and income tax avoidance.
Also there should be a constitutional ban on Spanish as an official language either federally or in any state. Cut off that false hope so that the Hispanic population realize that linguistic integration is going to be part of the deal. Canada has had this same challenge with Chinese and Indo-Canadian immigration with various half-hearted attempts to make their languages official, and it has been rejected with the result that more of these (legal) immigrants are anxious to learn English (or improve their English as quite a few speak some to start with).
And the Mexican border should be further sealed and guarded to the maximum extent possible. Foreign and economic policy should concentrate on the improvement of the Mexican and other central American economies so that their populations are less inclined to emigrate.
