The office of the speaker of the House released this list of members chosen for the Benghazi Select Committee:
WASHINGTON, DC House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) today named the seven Republican members of the Select Committee on the Events Surrounding the 2012 Terrorist Attack in Benghazi. The Select Committee also provides for five Democratic members, and those names will be released when provided by the House Minority Leader. Boehner issued the following statement:
This investigation is about getting answers for the families of the victims and for the American people. These members have each demonstrated a commitment to this goal, and I have confidence that they will lead a serious, fact-based inquiry. As I have expressed to each of them, I expect this committee to carry out an investigation worthy of the American lives lost in Benghazi. I also urge my Democratic colleagues to treat this tragedy with the proper respect and appoint members so that we can finally, on a bipartisan basis, get answers, provide accountability, and help deliver justice. It is critical that this committee do its work in a focused, timely manner, so that the House can continue to make the economy and job creation its priorities.
The Republican members of the Select Committee will be:
- Rep. Susan Brooks (R-IN)
- Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC), Chairman
- Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH)
- Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-KS)
- Rep. Martha Roby (R-AL)
- Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL)
- Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA)
How is Roksam? I know Jordan is good. Roby is okay, but I have no reason why she would be there
wishy washy and too nice or just plain not taken seriously in public.
According to the Rules of the House, the Select Committee must first adopt a set a committee rules. That means no hearings on Monday.
Boehner and Gowdy will want to give Pelosi at least three business days to make her appointments.
Then the committee will adopt a set of rules.
If the Dems boycott this committee, four more Republicans should be picked, leaving one empty chair to be or not be seated by a Dem.
No they whining idiots are using the We have wasted X amount on these hearing and nothing has come of it. Think of all the good things that that money could have been spent on.
Just One time, no strike that. EVERY TIME one of these whiners start that talking point I wish the Republicans would retort with, ‘If spending or wasting money is a concern perhaps you should ask the President, Mrs. Obama and the hundreds they take along on their adventures to maybe cancel just one of their Vacations scheduled for this month or any upcoming month. Seems to me that the cost of having ALL these hearings is about the same as one of those trips.’
Thanks, hopefully he doesn’t string it out longer.

Where’s Tom Cotton and Louis Goehmert?
Thanks for your post.
Looks like a stellar panel, strong legal backgrounds and a West Point graduate among them.
Where’s Louie Gohmert? He’d be great on this committee.
I don’t know. Perhaps there is a protocol that has to be followed in picking the members of this committee.
Thanks for the info!
At least six of these are rock solid conservatives.
I don’t know much about Susan Brooks. She easily won her last election (2012), but her district is solidly republican (Indianapolis suburbs). Wikipedia says she voted to end the government shutdown last October.
From the looks of it Rep Pompeo seems top notch:
First in his class from West Point. Served as a Cav officer
Editor of the Harvard Law Review which is very prestigious and ranks him near the top of their students.
Litigator for Williams and Connolly, one of the leading DC law firms
Founder and CEO of one private company and President of another
I’d say he was a good pick.
Absolutely, I just checked his Wiki page and he’s impressive.
It’s nice to hear that democrats are having to change their Depends more often now.
I predict that the administration will concoct a big “crisis” to get peoples’ minds off the forthcoming revelations about Benghazi.
I can personally speak for Pete Roskam. Why? Because he's from the suburban Chicago district I lived in when I was in elected county office. Rock solid conservative district. The late great Rep. Henry Hyde, godfather of the Right-to-Life movement in Congress, was Roskam's predecessor. He'll be great.
This is a committee to make the Left tremble with fear and rage.
To the Dems I say, "LET THE GAMES BEGIN, LOSERS!"
Leni
The creation of this select committee has Pelosi and some other Dems squealing like the hogs that got hit with rocks thrown over the fence.
That makes people wonder why.
