The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office pulled its deputies off the streets Thursday afternoon and asked other local law enforcement agencies to respond to calls of service after a number of newly purchased duty weapons failed gun range testing, officials said.
"We recently purchased over 300 Sig Sauer .40-caliber handguns, and during qualification on the range, a couple of them failed," said Deputy Les Garcia, a Sheriff's Office spokesman. "Our range master contacted Sig, and Sig identified a part in this gun that will potentially cause them to malfunction."

So. What did the Sheriff’s Office do with their old weapons? They can’t use what they were using?

They normally sell them to gun dealers. When an LEO agency buys .40s, used 9mms show up on the market.

The more recent models have been buggy, not due to design problems but due to hurried manufacture.

I read somewhere else that it was a small spring that somehow made it so you can’t swap magaazines.
So you are a menace with a mag bigger than, (what is it now 7?)but officer safety can’t be on the streets with less than 15.
My new sig 226 .40 is sweet and has never had a problem.

Anyways, I switched to target rounds and had LOTS of FTF and FTEs with weak Winchester and Remington FMJ. Sigh....so I went upstairs and bought a Glock G42 and it ate everything I could put through it.
Hmm...from the story, the officers were back on duty after exchanging firearms and a Sig representative is flying out with parts, so they know what the problem is. I’d love to know myself. Sig has an excellent reputation for reliability.
I was at Front sight in NV and watched a deputy nearly shoot herself in the foot w her Beretta.

P229 carried every day. Shot 1000’s of .40 cal through it, including IDPA. Not even 1 single hiccup, ever. On the other hand, my Colt XSE is very particular when it comes to mags, and ammo. It doesn’t drink the cheap stuff.
I am an XD convert. As reliable with less recoil, better grip and stock sights. I would like to get some work done on the trigger though to remove some of the slack. (just my opinion)
To date, I have NEVER had a single instance with my XD-45 Compact. And I admit to shooting some REALLY cheap no-name ammo through it. Shooting an XD .40 and .45 along side of Glock models is enlightening. It is a bit like the Coke Vs. Pepsi debate, however.
