VATICAN CITY (AP) - Pope Francis called Friday for governments to redistribute wealth to the poor in a new spirit of generosity to help curb the "economy of exclusion" that is taking hold today.
Francis made the appeal during a speech to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the heads of major U.N. agencies who met in Rome this week.
Latin America's first pope has frequently lashed out at the injustices of capitalism and the global economic system that excludes so much of humanity, though his predecessors have voiced similar concerns.
On Friday, Francis called for the United Nations to promote a "worldwide ethical mobilization" of solidarity with the poor in a new spirit of generosity.

If the pope actually said that GOVERNMENTS were to do the redistribution, then this is NOT charity - it is governmental theft.
Charity is giving voluntarily. Taxes, despite the feeble BS of the IRS, are NOT voluntary.
He is calling for government to do it. That cannot be conflated with voluntary, private giving. Disingenuous at best.

This is talking about rendering judgement. This anti-christ pope is doing just this, giving deference to the poor. It is not the job of governments to steel from one and give to another. Men may freely give of their own volition, not be coerced by the their governments or world "bodies" (UN, Vatican, etc.)
The Vatican cannot escape its heavy-handed proclivities. They have slaughtered God's saints for centuries and will no doubt be instrumental at the end in propping up false "world religion" of a ecumenical bent.

Then you’re not paying attention to what he’s been saying and doing. If this latest gaffe was was an isolated incident and out of character with many other remarks and speeches, then yeah. Give the man a pass.
But - sad to say - This is very much in line with the many other leftist things he’s said and done since taking the job of Pope.
Nobody has endured longer than the Catholic Church, and none are worse at learning from its mistakes. (Reformation was one exception).
As has been revealed over the past decades of scandals, the Vatican Bank is largely a black hole. The idea that the Catholic Church—which already staffs and finances more hospitals, hospices, schools, colleges, soup kitchens, and so on than any other entity in the world—could make a dent in world poverty by selling any of its tangible goods is silly.
Poverty is caused by behavior, not a lack of cash. That's why expropriating funds from anyone by force to transfer them to the poor does no good. And that, by the way, is why I am careful to note that Papal pronouncements calling for governments to redistribute citizens' wealth are not, and can never be de fide or necessary to believe in order to remain a Catholic in good standing.
I also rarely consult Papal encyclicals for baseball statistics. But on the nature of God and man, the moral law, and the salvation of my soul, there's no competition.

The only thing wrong with your logic is that “giving” is voluntary (being necessary for blessings to be given), whereas “taxes” are mandatory and offer no such benefits.

Oh, I almost forgot. My friend working as a social worker for Catholic Charities...
It takes a few years for a social worker to gain a license and in these years there are certain periodic reviews that must take place with the employer. It’s a formality really, as little as a few meetings a year with some brief paperwork. Maybe three hours per year. The administration at Catholic Charities couldn’t be bothered to do this. Was it because they weren’t collecting enough in overhead or was it because a social worker once licensed might move on? Good question.

I’ve often heard that Protestants don’t understand Papal Infallibility. I’m starting to think a lot of Catholics don’t quite get it either. The Pope is making statements about economics that are stupid. He is stupid and wrong on the subject. How any conservative can defend this is beyond me. He’s calling for the state to make economic decisions. That doesn’t work, has never worked, and CANNOT work. Human nature (not good) dictates that it cannot. What the Pope is advocating leads to poverty, regardless of his good intentions. On this subject he is JUST A MAN, and not a smart one.
Oh, there's a little more than that. Your downplaying of church ownership of land worldwide (not just the land on which churches sit) is disingenuous. Vatican art works alone are priceless.
