Participating would legitimize the results, while boycotting it might open up Democrats to attacks on their concern for diplomatic personnel abroad, four of whom were killed in the attack on September 11, 2012, and leave administration officials no way to set the narrative through the friendly questioning of Democrats on the panel during public hearings. Pelosi hedged in the direction of participation by demanding an equal number of seats on the committee:

I can tell you this. It is not going to be evenly constituted and when she was Speaker Pelosi, she certainly showed no interests in having an equal number of Republicans and Democrats.
We’re in the majority. That may or may not be the case after November but we’re in the majority right now and we’re in the majority for a reason. And I just find it interesting that people’s ability to do math changes when they go from being the Speaker to the Minority Leader.
She’s looking for a reason to walk out.
Walking out is not necessarily a political winning strategy. Me thinks the demoRats are caught in a dilemma.

The Democrats are scared. That initial ploy that “we will not participate” fell flat. Still it will be very difficult to defend a obvious deception. Those emails were devastating. Period.
Pelosi’s PC half/half ratio wrongly ignores that voters have made Republicans the House majority party. Committee should reflect current ratio of House Republicans to Democrats favoring Republicans imo.
If this were a case of any other set of Dems, I’d agree. But these idiots need to be excluded, minimized and shut out. Just as Harry does to Pubs in the senate.
And when called on it, the GOP should say exactly that. Then bull ahead doing the job they were elected to do.
EVERYONE knows damn well that if things were reversed politically, democrats would NOT ALLOW a SINGLE republican on their committee!
