Throughout history, religion has sanctioned and fueled the persecution of homosexuality. That dynamic may be drawing to an end. Polls, clerics, and denominations are shifting. Theology is adapting. Resistance to same-sex marriage is dwindling, and theres no end in sight.
For 15 years, the Ethics and Public Policy Center has hosted the Faith Angle Forum, a regular conference on religion and public life. Several weeks ago, the group met again to discuss current issues. Transcripts of the conference have just been posted on EPPCs website. They underscore the extent of the anti-gay collapse.
The first session, led by papal biographer Paul Vallely and Boston Globe editor John Allen, focused on Pope Francis and the Catholic Church. Vallely, the author of Pope Francis: Untying the Knots, noted that before Francis became pope, he supported civil unions in Argentina....
The conferences second session dwelled on sin. The speakers, Cornelius Plantinga of Calvin College and Ross Douthat of the New York Times, discussed what we should feel bad about. Homosexuality wasnt on the list.... It used to be that people thought of homosexual acts as sinful, he said. Now they think of criticism of homosexual acts as sinful....
The next morning, we had our final session, on the culture wars. Molly Ball, the Atlantics terrific political writer, summarized the trend toward acceptance of same-sex marriage. Forty percent of Republicans and 61 percent of Republicans under 30 now favor it, she reported. So do 57 percent of Catholics and 55 percent of mainline Protestants....
There will always be Christians, Muslims, and Jews who condemn homosexuality.... But in this country, religious resistance is crumbling. Its being overwhelmed by love, conscience, and a God who keeps creating gay kids, even in the most devout families. Over time, He will prevail.

Another crunchy tidbit for the kittehs!
I believe that darksheare is on to something with this insight. Since the actual zot wasn't posted on the thread, perhaps our mod might be willing to amuse us with a confirmation of a retread?
The only surprise about this zot is how long he lasted.
*shrugs*
Guess on my part, admittedly.
Some of this guy’s supporters are gonna be sad to lose one of their fellow Sarah Palin thread trolls.
aquabuddist had the same M.O. - a pretend Swiss ‘neutrality’ peppered with plenty of advocacy for surrender to the gaystapo ...
Yeah, he also was against interrogating terrorists.
Yup.

Testing the water with that thread, werencha?
Alas, poor Flame Retard, I knew him... briefly as a Paultard.
Flaming retard, alas he was born a tard, lived a tard, and died tarded in tarder sauce.
God also creates liberals.....
This was a tasty one, too. Dang pooftahs! Go away.
Yes. It has been a long time coming, but he/she/it was finally given enough rope.
I almost called it “Flaming Retread” or “Flaming Retard.” But that would have been rude.
The whole "resistance is crumbling" thing is a classical bit of wishful thinking on the order of the "picking up steam" stories we usually hear with respect to hopeless causes. Pathetic.
I wouldn’t trust any of the Pauls as far as I could throw them. They’re liberaltarians to a man.
They’re the epitome of campaigning right and taking a very sharp left turn once they’re elected.
I am sick and dang tired of betrayal by our elected officials.
An in-depth look at the trends I noted earlier. An in-depth look at the trends would logically lead you to a broken down lawless land mass, devoid of Christian values that tolerated homosexuals, viciously attacking homosexuals to a horrific degree that can't even be imagined by people who have not visited Hell itself. Have fun with that.
