The Collapse of Anti-Gay Religion
Slate ^ | 5-1-2014 | William Saletan

Posted on 05/05/2014 7:26:10 AM PDT by Flame Retardant

Throughout history, religion has sanctioned and fueled the persecution of homosexuality. That dynamic may be drawing to an end. Polls, clerics, and denominations are shifting. Theology is adapting. Resistance to same-sex marriage is dwindling, and there’s no end in sight.

For 15 years, the Ethics and Public Policy Center has hosted the Faith Angle Forum, a regular conference on religion and public life. Several weeks ago, the group met again to discuss current issues. Transcripts of the conference have just been posted on EPPC’s website. They underscore the extent of the anti-gay collapse.

The first session, led by papal biographer Paul Vallely and Boston Globe editor John Allen, focused on Pope Francis and the Catholic Church. Vallely, the author of Pope Francis: Untying the Knots, noted that before Francis became pope, he supported civil unions in Argentina....

The conference’s second session dwelled on sin. The speakers, Cornelius Plantinga of Calvin College and Ross Douthat of the New York Times, discussed what we should feel bad about. Homosexuality wasn’t on the list.... “It used to be that people thought of homosexual acts as sinful,” he said. “Now they think of criticism of homosexual acts as sinful.”...

The next morning, we had our final session, on the culture wars. Molly Ball, the Atlantic’s terrific political writer, summarized the trend toward acceptance of same-sex marriage. Forty percent of Republicans and 61 percent of Republicans under 30 now favor it, she reported. So do 57 percent of Catholics and 55 percent of mainline Protestants....

There will always be Christians, Muslims, and Jews who condemn homosexuality.... But in this country, religious resistance is crumbling. It’s being overwhelmed by love, conscience, and a God who keeps creating gay kids, even in the most devout families. Over time, He will prevail.

So by that logic, God keeps creating pedophiles, as well.

God WILL prevail, and His Church will go on, despite the persecution by the Left.

There are people changing and capitulating. There are also many uncompromising people who have just gotten quiet because the gay activists are raised the price of speaking out.

Amos 5:13 Therefore at such a time the prudent person keeps silent, for it is an evil time.

Anal sex will never be considered what God intended for his creation.

No matter what the elitists tell us; or how many people pretend otherwise.

Never.

Many will be called, but few will be chosen...

It will be as in Noah's day...

I wonder what a poll of residents of Sodom would have said?

I think this is actually a reprint of the original article that ran in the Sodom-Gomorrah Times Sentinel ;-)

It’s being overwhelmed by Law suits, courts siding with persecution of those who do not fall on their knees to worship before the glory of a man sticking his p***s into another mans a**s and a rejection of God who keeps creating sinful kids, even in the most devout families. Over time, He will prevail.

A bit of help to turn this mess of lies into something resembling truth.

Uh, well, America is crumbling. And this asshat celebrates it and predicts that it will become the new paradigm of a country that I cannot even imagine—noting that this is already a country that I cannot even imagine.

God Bless America—we are all wretched, but, we don’t all blaspheme You with vigor and joy. Paul said this would happen. He was given that information by You Lord.

Amen.

Must be why the Episcopal Church is cratering, because you know, liberal Christianity is so awesome and stuff!

It used to be that the Church influenced culture. Now culture rules the Church.

"I don’t say this lightly, but Saletan is one of the more dishonest pundits out there — I’ve read multiple columns by this guy where he lies with numbers and fudges the evidence to fit his preconceptions, and this is no exception. He’s once again arguing that creationism is compatible with science, and he has to make some dodgy claims to do so. Look here:"

Throughout history, religion has sanctioned and fueled the persecution of homosexuality.

"Religion"?

No. The homosexual's argument is with God, and His Creation. And He has clearly stated in the Bible His verdict on homosexual behavior, as with all sexual immorality, is that it is sinful.

"sanctioned and fueled the persecution ..."?

lol. Hardly. God loves the sinner but hates the sin. Slate and RonPaulJr are opposing God by trying to justify the sinfulness of homosexuality.

Author William Saletan, per Wiki:
a Jewish “liberal Republican” (so they can say he’s a `conservative’?) Swarthmore grad who supports homosexual marriage/Slate writer (but I repeat myself), trying to tell us the world—in particular, religion—is ready to abandon the very definition of homosexuality as an aberration/perversity.

Abraham Lincoln said, “You can call a dog’s tail a leg, and say it has five legs, but calling a tail a leg don’t make it a leg.”
Heh, silly homos. Go peddle your papers.
