Anti-government protesters have taken control of the regional administration building and prosecutor’s office in the city of Lugansk, eastern Ukraine. Protests continue as the deadline for the protesters’ ultimatum to the government expired.

“The building is ours. That’s it,” local protest leader Oleg Dereko told RIA Novosti.

“A regional administration building has been taken by storm,” an activist who asked not to be named has told RT. “A coordination committee and militia are now inside and are getting ready for an emergency meeting.”

The Ukrainian flag on the building has been replaced with Russia's tricolor.

Just about anything the Ukraine does to put a stop to this sort of thing, gives Russia the ammo it needs to claim a right to go in to protect the Russians stuck in Eastern Ukraine.

All this concern for Russians in Eastern Ukraine.

What about the Ukrainians who live in Eastern Ukraine? Don’t they deserve to remain with their nation?

I’m confused. Are we suppose to support these protestors taking over the government or are we suppose to condemn them and only support the protestors in Kiev that took over the government?

I think the official U.S. (Obama) government line is:

Kiev, western Ukraine protesters: good, noble, pure as the wind-driven snow, only seek better government.

Eastern Ukraine protesters: filthy Russian-backed spies, not legitimate, possibly paid, etc, etc.

Depends. Did Ukraine invade and annex a part of Russia?

I appreciate the photos. In them it looks like this is a very popular movement. I’m not convinced of that. In these types of events, many more people remain home rather than go down and protest what is taking place, get involved in a fight and be killed or harmed severely.

Just wait til the dust settles......but it does appear this is
similar to Crimea....non-violent and the people planned this so it wouldn’t be and why so many showed up. This has been in the works since Crimea..... Also the police showed no resistance as they knew this was coming and agreement made with them prior.

I am understanding that Kiev has pretty much determined they won’t be fighting much against as the Eu believes Ukraine will be better off without these areas with a large Russian population...thus they can consolidate their power and take Ukraine further with the EU.

These people have been ‘planning’ this for some time...since Crimea I believe...and they wanted it to be a peaceful, unlike Kiev, so if you note it’s pretty much a calm takeover.....I understand the militia were not part of the crowd when they first began this, came in after to secure the buildings.

I’ll be interested to see who they have as temporary officials. Donestk (self-appointed Mayor) creates many bad situations and violence as he’s on his own power trip Imo. I don’t think he’s a stable individual.

I hear now they are on the move, as action spreads from admin building to Int. Ministry and other admin buildings in Lugansk
Might be problems now as Int. Ministry buildings are filled with forces loyal to Kiev.

Going to see if photos or videos up yet on this....I have learned to get them early as event occurs, otherwise later so many are old or altered.

“I am understanding that Kiev has pretty much determined they won’t be fighting much against as the Eu believes Ukraine will be better off without these areas with a large Russian population”

I am more inclined to believe it is because the coup government can only depend on around 1,000 people to actually fight, and several hundred of them are still camped out in Kiev.

The Army has proven to unreliable in two different attempts to put down the seperatists, and Right-Sector is the only thing keeping the government in Kiev in Office.

I think RT is just replaying the event....here are the police after they surrendered to the people...they actually had a corridor the police could walk down and here they are in the cornered by the people.

MORE:
Soldiers of the National Guard in Lugansk agreed to surrender the arms

Soldiers of the National Guard of Ukraine, which were blocked by aggressive people with the Russian symbols in the building of the regional government administration in Lugansk agreed to return the arm to the armoury.

As reported by the correspondent of the agency “Interfax-Ukraine”, pro-Russian activists agreed to remove the blockade of 150 soldiers of the National Guard, who were in the inner court of the building in return to their promise not to use arms against them and return it to the armoury.

Few pro-Russian activists have followed the soldiers of the National Guard to “make sure” that the arms will be deposited to the armoury.

That pic is from the Ministry.
Right now they are at Police HQ.

Several tweets saying the crowd wants those arrested in Lugansk freed, as well.

...”Right-Sector is the only thing keeping the government in Kiev in Office”.....

Well I agree but then the EU/Nato/US are supporting them doing so.

Kiev has their hands plenty full just trying to control the thugs...as we saw the other day when they went beating on people during the march. These thugs come out of the woodwork in any march or protest because they love violence. It’s like trying to control gang members who are self appointed street gangs claiming to “protect” the citizens....when in fact they love fighting and with little reason to do so.

It’s a shame Kiev relies on these thugs....no different then Russia’s thugs.
